Well, I don't know about jobs for today but on Thursday, my day off, I intend to paint one of the fences with Green wood treatment which usually ends up with more paint on me than on the fence. Then with one of the big collapsible garden bags, a pair of secateurs, sharp knife and scissors I start taking out the plant debris in the borders for dumping on the Compost Heap. I have a list of things to do so we'll see how much I can strike off the list.:snork:

Is there any mileage in starting a new thread monthly? Could refer back to last years then, easily, to see jobs we were doing then and compare.

No point if folk would not refer back though, I suppose. What you all think?

It seems a reasonable idea :)

It wouldn't matter to me because I take photos all the time and file them under their months/years. So I can see exactly how the garden and plants etc were doing. Out of curiosity, I was looking at some of our plants in April (each year) and noticed that on 24/4/11 the temperature was 80.1F and on 6/4/08 we had deep snow!

Me too. What did we do before Digital/Free photography? Must have cost a fortune - plus the processing delay.

I was looking at some photos on another forum of beautiful Acers in the red Autumn plumage and flicked back through Photos for the last few years and now realise that mine will be in full colour ... next week!

Maybe the monthly ""hat's looking good" threads are all we need then? Doesn't cover "jobs that need doing that month" though

Having a good sort out in the GH....Got rid of the last of the tomato plants....got one side washed and bench back up.....clearing propagation bench.....the sand is sodden and the bench is listing so will have to get the trolley jack out to raise it to make it level again...
The canes and pots need a wash but they'll keep for a winters night.....:dbgrtmb:

Update...got the other side washed, just need to sort out 'listing' bench and put things back:thumbsup:

It's an idea Kristen, but I'm not sure many people would refer back. Most people keep some sort of check on what's gone on in their gardens the previous year anyway and this particular thread mainly refers to day to day 'doings' rather than any particular planting/growing strategies.

Indeed. Lots of chat, and as such would be a lot to read to find the nuggets.

Although I have notes, as you say, for things I have newly planted / are not familiar with other people's experiences are useful. But that would need a whole database of "answers" I reckon. Now there's a little project for me to while away the winter hours building, ideal for chronic OCD as well !!

Over the weekend I will continue lifting tender perennials and replacing them with wallflowers growing in my veg plot. And cutting back perennials like rudbekias....and splitting and potting them....as this weekend temperatures, are set to fall. I'm a " tidy" gardener and like to mulch the ground ready for, the, hellebores, bulbs, and other winter and spring flowers.

                    Verdun,
Have you posted any pictures of your garden? It sounds a bit special and I'm sure I'm not alone in wanting to have a stroll around....
