I have a bird table 15 feet high!!! The reason being we have a rookery in the woods nearby and they are afraid to land on our small lawn as a 'take-off run' is impossible.

The fat balls or 'birdy cakes' go aloft in a cage pulled up by string, when in postition the table is returned to the horizontal by pulling on another 'bit o' string'.

(Who is this Heath Robinson). I've just moved it a few feet down the garden as I was having difficulty watching the big black roots pecking away at the balls from my chair in the conserve'

The biggest problem was trying to remember the bend allowances required when making the bracket to fix the shaft to the shed

If it's sunny, I'll take a snap and pop it here manana.

    Cheers, Tony.

I moved all the baskets and flowerbags away from the front, round to the back garden ready to go into the greenhouse to hopefully give me some tubers for next year; I then moved the car out into the road, and pressure washed the whole front garden, driveway (even the pavement outside the house :oopss:) and through to the back garden - then the rain came on and put paid to outdoor play, so I went indoors and shampooed the downstairs carpets.

I braved the cold for all of fifteen minutes today to plant my two new Queen Elizabeth roses - the ground is so wet that there was no need to water them in, so it was just a case of plenty of chickens.hit in the hole, backfilled with top soil and then capped off with a good layer of compost.

Cleared the raised bed of all the begonias, pruned Buff Beauty rose. Then OH dug out a rhodi thats not worthy of the space it commanded. Trimmed off biggest hellebore leaves and tomorrow its cut back all the Dahlias to plant wallflowers in the freed up space,

Yep, that's where I'm at too. Getting the last of the wallflowers in. I like to see a "clean" garden at this time of the year....I mulch with plenty of compost and await the first signs of hellebore buds

I've just put the new bare root Prunus avium Stella in a planter with some compost until I plant it out in Spring. Beggar me it's cold having your hands in freezing cold soggy compost!

At some stage over the weekend I'm going to give the roses a quick trim and remove all the blooms/buds cos they are just rotting away in this soggy weather.

If anything like the rest of us watching the rain drops hitting the windows, then getting itchy fingers from not being able to grow anything or planting anything just yet.
But we could all look through the mound of catalogues for what to grow next season.
