Did some clearing of the borders in preparation for tulip bulbs to be planted. Cleared away all the sweet peas and pulled up some cabbage. Still need to cut down some of the rises to protect them from wind rock and tidy up the bottom of the garden.

Well, I put on a pair of mucky, tattered old jeans and went out into the garden. I've managed to plant all of the Tulips and Daffs but not in the places I thought I could get them in. So I've put a mixture of both in front of the Arbour so that I can have a mug of tea and look at them when they come up.
The trouble is that as you dig around in the borders you notice this or that needs digging up or replacing/replanting so the jobs accumulate and extend the time. With the idea of keeping Nettles in certain areas for the Caterpillars to feed on after the Butterflies have laid their eggs comes a down side. I'm discovering some Nettles that have self seeded in the borders where they're not welcome, so it was gloves on and a case of checking to see if there was any more.:coffee:

Planted nearly 100 of the yews :blue thumb: and the 5 cherries :blue thumb: (Recent Purchases thread)

A plug for Ashridge Trees if I may. Amazing quality plants as always. The 8/10std Cherries are a good 15' tall, and the Yews, billed as 20-30cm, are mostly around 24" tall (60cm in new money) and amazing root structure - I have no idea how they lift plants, intact, with such established roots - they certainly haven't got my brick-making clay!

Blimey Kristen, that's a forest you've planted. :heehee: And there's me overjoyed at the arrival today of my first three of nine roses. I haven't had roses for twenty years.

Yesterday I filled another, slightly larger, compost heap with leaves and cut another lawn. Someone dropped by with some David Austin roses they had dug up from their garden. Now we shall have to work out where to put them.

We were too busy today to do anything in the garden

Blimey, there are so many inspirational guys on this forum. I've got quite a number of perennials, new to me, that are overwintering for me to plant out next spring. Always on the look out for special hellebores....special regarding colours. Looking to get a really, good yellow variety.

You might have to move the leaves to plant the bulbs! We had to yesterday to get to the soil to plant the yew hedge :)

                Well, I've been ... um ... :autlvs:

It took 2.5 hours, and a whole mower-tank of petrol, and I've not done the whole garden yet. Let's hope it's dry on Monday, as I'm not allowed to mow tomorrow...

Was out in the village this morning with Mrs W and our 3yr old granddaughter helping plant the first of 2013 daff and crocus bulbs along the verges. Little Heidi was brilliant counting out 5 bulbs into each hole, replacing the turf and then jumping on it to settle it.
This pm got out garden vac and filled my 5th sack with leaves to add to compost heaps over the course of the next year.

Two hours, yes two hours of umming and arring and I've finally got my first three roses of nine in the new bed. I should have stuck to one colour it would have been so much easier! Still waiting for the other six to arrive and they'll probably take me all day. :heehee:
