What Jobs Are We Doing in the Garden Today... MK3.. 2013

The breeze has shifted around to the S/East and its most welcome. Too hot and humid and I think it will all end in tears before long. Haven't had a thunderstorm for a long, long time. Quite looking forward to it in a way, but there's a lot of soft frail stem growth around and a lot is gonna get flattened..

Need to put my water butt back before the free water offer starts

 

I've planted out lavenders that I've grown from seed this year, also one of the Sedums (Ice plant) from cuttings. Thinned out the leaves on the tomatoes and cleared the Petunias from two planters that haven't done at all well.

 

I've got a bit of a clean up job after the heavy rain last night. It's decimated my big rose bush, petals everywhere and damaged blooms so I'll have to get up the stepladder to cut them off. It looks in a bit of a state right now :(

 

Weeding between the bedding plants and dead heading.
Picked a few spring onions.
Nothing but pots needed watering after last nights heavy rain
Much go get another bag of compost and prick out the rest of the wallflowers and pansies!

 

Planted out some bedding and perennials, watered them in.

Tidied some beds. Sowed some cabbage/all year cauliflowers. Threw all prunings away, and cleaned some flower pots.
Been a bit windy round here today, had to take in small plastic greenhouse, as it has moved twice.

Hopefully we shall have a drop more rain, the soil was bone dry when I turned it over. Back now killing me, Sciatica pain all the way down my left leg, tingling like hell. Time for pain relief and a sit down. Thats me done for the day, and probably the rest of the week.

 

I've done loads today.

* Picked out grass out of my main border/bed
* Generally weeded it all
* Ripped out some spent sprounts/broccolis/chard
* Dead headed my buddleja 'black knight', and the giant daisees (which I think are leucanthemum / shasta daisees)
* Modified my strimmer to take beefy wire
* Strimmed the brick edging so you can see it again
* Reopened an overgrown archway
* Mowed the lawn

Then Paul turned up, so..

* Drank beer

 

Potted on various varieties of Eucalyptus. Lovely smell

 

I've not much to do at the moment but potted on some Cistus cuttings and watered the tomatoes this evening.

 

I have been feeding the Camellias today as the ground is moist after all the rain we have had in the last few days. August is the month they start to form next years flower buds. I water in a soluble feed by Miracle Gro. When moist, it goes directly to the root area with no run off or going through like a sieve,
