I still have the XXXL Dahlias on order that were supposed to arrive this year clicky, which will be teamed up with some of these pompone mixed, and some of these giant hybrids along with some bulbs as well as some of the Bishops Children and the other mixed dahlias (showcase mixed from memory) that I have growing this year, assuming of course that I can overwinter the tubers correctly.

I am going a bit dahlia nuts next year, but I really like them and I am hoping that they, alongside the begonias that I am looking at will give me a riot of a display, whilst also being more consistent and less hard work (less dead heading etc).

    I'm doubting that!

A way to test germination viability is to put them on a dampened piece of kitchen paper in a Tupperware box.

I took this piccie about an hour ago ( flash) . I sat 2 ft from them all afternoon watching all the bees at work ; fascinating and very restful.
P1030499.JPG There are 6 dwarf mixed in the container that came from my local Nursery in a 6 cell polystyrene box for £3.50. I can understand your love affair with them,
      Jenny

The bees have been having a whale of a time this year - I was pinching seed pods off the malva yesterday and there was a bee on every second flower :hapydancsmil:

It's not unusual. It just depends on the variety.

This was in our garden a few years ago and looked superb. Unfortunately, the seeds didn't seem to be viable.

It was just one plant. We don't know what variety it was as we got it from a church fete.

Yesterday I moved most of the compost around the bays, so today it's time to finish the job, and empty the "current" bay into the first "holding" bay...

I am going to rescue that Rose I made a thread about, sow some of my collected Aquilegia seeds, take some Fuschia cuttings, go see a neighbor to see if she will let me have a few cuttings from her Hydranger

Quick update on an epic fail day.

Local PCSO has stopped me rescuing the Rose, she thinks it is planted on council property, I told her I have seen the title deeds and the original plans for the place and it is on my BiL property. She has asked me to show them to her ! Which I cannot do until tomorrow as I have to go to the Agents and get the plans ! And this after an hour and a half cutting back and digging out (although it still not out yet)!

Fail 2 neighbour is out will not be back until after tea.

Fail 3 due to the heat and sun Fuschias will need to be watered before I take cuttings.

Lets go see what else can go wrong today.......:wallbanging:

Wow! That PCSO is a bit of a jobsworth! Are they short of things to do in your area?
Well, that's your 3 that bad things come in so you should have a good afternoon now. :)

I have just started yet another new bed. So that should keep me and the dogs busy for a while.
Willa has now decided that since I keep replanting the plants she so kindly brings back in for me she will just bury them instead!:snork:

The property is not in my area, thats probs why. Had it have been 35 years ago then the 'ole Bill would probably have known me as I lived that side of town. Plus there have been warnings on NHW that plants, pots etc have been disappearing from gardens.....

Yep since I got back things have been better, all weeding done for one. :snork:

Mowed the straw (lawn) and abit more dead heading.
Planning to extend the jungle/tropical border for next year caught the bug
Picked some more toms and cucumbers. Noticed the peppers are starting to turn red too :)
Water the wall flowers again, noticed that some of the leaves are turning yellow, maybe sown too early.

Not sure what to call what I'm working on at the moment. Literally, it's bricklaying, but not as we know it! I am laying bricks onto the new bed to create paths to access the centre. But the bricks I'm using are recycled - I got them out of the bed as I created it. They are hand made, so are different sizes, dimensions, colours. I have no idea what shape each one is until I remove the mortar. Brick-crazy-pathing is probably the nearest accurate description!
The last two days, on the straight paths, were challenging - now I'm doing a circle!! :gaah:
