Deadheading and took a red patio rose that has struggled in its pot into the bed.
Took a dozen coleus cuttings and put them in water.

I emptied my compost bin today so I can fill it up again, the annuals are coming out of the beds tomorrow. So sad, another summer finished!

I took cuttings from my Geranium "Frank Hedley" and put them in their own little plastic GH. They will sit up in the bathroom/ maternity ward.
I also potted on a little Mimosa Pudica houseplant that I fell in love with on a day trip to Weymouth recently. A fascinating plant whose leaves close up when you touch them and reopen 10 minutes later.. It also closes when the evening light fades.

Are cuttings better to overwinter than the plant itself then?

Not done anything today, although will need to water stuff later. Despite the cooling weather, things are still blooming nicely:

Don't you just love a nice dahlia?

The Malva Zebrina are also doing me proud (seeds available if anyone wants, just PM me)

              20130908_121006.jpg

And I am intrigued as to why this one is more 'pink' thank the others?

I might save some of the seeds from this one separately to see if the pinkness carries on to subsequent generations.

Geraniums? I suggest doing both. You can shove the geranium plants in a corner in the garage, or similar, and a pot (or several) stuffed with cuttings on a windowsill - and then pot them up in the spring.

Geraniums root too temptingly easily! im ashamed to say when i was buying one a couple of months ago i couldn't resist the urge to take a few 'cuttings' of the other Geraniums & stick them into the compost of the one i was buying :oopss: what can i say, it was a moment of weakness :sofa:

Been out picking loads of Blackberries, a great crop this year. While scrambling about in the undergrowth (why are the biggest, juiciest Blackberries always in the most awkward spot!?) I found the 1st Ladybird of this season. It isn't going to have long before Autumn sets in in earnest. I hope it finds enough to eat as I've not seen any (good for me bad for Ladybirds) greenfly at all. I wonder if if this strange pattern has been repeated down South?

Roy, Either you've got a very steep garden or they've installed that shed on its side:)

Got some Hellebores out of their pots, finally, and into beds. Also settled some Heuchera in and potted up some cuttings. Took seed from Hollyhocks.

Between the showers, and reading the forum, I picked some french beans, laughed at the sorry state of my baby runner beans, potted up my phygelius (:ThankYou: folks!), a clematis tangutica, and a DA rose I bought at half price at the weekend. Also expanded my Dutch vocabulary whilst having our entrance gate motor-arms repaired.:)
