Weeded one of the flower beds and cut back some dead plant stems. Hoed in the last of the compost from the bin and then quickly filled the bin back up again with a mountain of soggy grass cuttings. It's the first day we've had no rain for over a week and, though it was quite chilly, was lovely to spend a few hours out in the sunshine.

Chopped down a couple of the dead leylandii trees. Not as difficult as it sounds because they'd been killed off already before we bought the house, and all the branches had been stripped, leaving just the trunks to come down.

Dug up loads of small Astilbe plants - very invasive. This made room for planting some "Vulcan" Wallflowers and some Bowles Golden grass clumps. It was so soggy that I could have been planting rice almost!! And I "grew" 3 inches by the time I'd done and spent quite a bit of time scraping a portion of the garden off my boots..:gaah:. Then I washed a load of pots and stacked 'em away for next Spring, then I washed all the mud off the garden path.

Mucked out the chickens, dug some compost into the veg patch and put in my autumn sowing of broad beans.
Did a bit of leaf clearing round the house and ran the mower over the lawn on a high setting to clear up a few more leaves and tidy up the grass.

I could've given you some Loli - swept my patio/drive today which were covered in 'em.

Then sprayed it with Wet n Forget. Just hope it stays dry long enough for it to take.

Brilliant stuff - before and after pics from last year. You just spray it on and leave.

Picked up yet more pears - about 30 lbs, and popped them onto the compost heap along with leaves I'd vac'd up from the pear tree, climbing hydrangea and an apple. Shifted some green toms from the greenhouse into the house to ripen. And since it was a nice calm day and smoke wouldn't drift across the village I incinerated a big pile of prunings from one of our apple trees. I'll bag the ash tomorrow and keep it for scattering under the fruit bushes and tree next April/May. Chucked yet another pile of cat poo over the fence into the neighbour's wilderness.

Not done anything out there for a couple of days but picked five pound of runnerbeans. I thought they had finished but was amazed when I worked my way through them. They're definitely finished now - but I said that last time!

Does drinking coffee and looking our the window at the first frost on the garden count?
