Today we have the tree surgeons turning up. Lots of cutting to be done! Things will look a lot different for open day next year :hate-shocked: as the willow will be cut back to the main trunks.

That's what I thought too when I saw Monty Don using wire wool on Gardeners World, personally I just use a rubber ersaser - it's a lot simpler :blue thumb:

I used to use Permanent Markers to write on the plastic plant labels only to find the writing had faded and disappeared within months.......so much for "Permanent":dunno::snork:

My permanent marker lasts at least two seasons (I have labels that I know I wrote last year). Perhaps there are Markers and Markers??

Some of the work done in the front garden yesterday. I've been doing some tidying up after them, today.

There were six conifers to be cut down to the same height as the LeyLandii hedge. These are some of them.

The willow has had its five yearly hair cut and the cherry prunus has been thinned out.

This contorted hazel was above the roof so needed some shaping (also done every five years)

Leaf raking for an hour. A couple of weeks ago I found it therapeutic, now it is just irksome and still more leaves to fall. Still, good for the compost...

Yes, he does look close but he was about 4ft away. That's why he had to cut the trunk into small sections, so that they wouldn't hit the cable as they went.

Planted out a pot of parsley from the supermarket, and a box of living lettuce, into the polytunnel. Wish I had remembered to buy some little cabbage and cauli plants to put in there, after mr and mrs mouse had had my seedlings. Picked a bowl of salad leaves. Looked over some trays of stored apples, picked up another 3buckets of windfall Bramleys, picked remainder of eaters off tree.brushed paths, dug up jungle of day lilies and acanthus . Made bread, good day.

Well after getting back off holiday last Sunday night I've had chance to get in the garden for a tidy up.
Finally wrapped the gingers , cannas and banana pots in bubble wrap and now in the tucked away in the GH.

Well, the Lavender in the front of the House and in the garden has kept flowering all through the Autumn and still had a few flower spikes today. But I got the secateurs out and trimmed them down to a nice shape ready for next year.:coffee:
