We got a lot of work done in the garden yesterday. Almost 16 hours between us. Mowing, weeding, cutting back etc. I completely filled one compost heap, the bonfire is 6ft high again and two wheelie bins ar filled with nasties. A very good day :yahoo:

I put the new tyre on my wheelbarrow, so no more carrying heavy trugs of compost from the heap (at the bottom of the garden) to the veg bed (at the top). Two barrow loads of compost now placed on the veg bed, and the fruit bushes and trees have all had a mulch top-up.

I've also repaired on the the compost bins, which was threatening to tumble down onto the house below us. Not bad for a couple of hours' work!

Spent the last week decorating so not had very much time in the garden. Did manage to get a couple of small beds tidied up and weeded and cut down the last of the phlox and another perennial that I'm not sure of but which hides a messy area, so can stay for now. Will hopefully get out there tomorrow and do some more, but it's meant to be very cold so we'll see how long I last. Maybe dig in some mulch which would at least keep me warm

We're well on the way to getting the winter tidying up done. So may finish it by 2015 :lunapic 130165696578242 5:

Ground is frozen this morning so won't be digging in any mulch today. But the frost has caused an avalanche of leaves to fall, particularly from the huge old magnolia which had been clinging grimly on to hers, so I guess I can be raking up barrowloads of :autlvs:. Maybe get some more protection round the fuschias. At least it's lovely and sunny so hopefully will warm up a bit this afternoon.

Finished pruning our big Tydemans Early Worcster apple - it's taken about 4 or 5 hours, but it had put on a lot of growth this year. Then shredded all the prunings and bagged then to add to the compost heap in layers over the next 12 months. Then vacc'd up the last of the apple leaves, bagged them and sprayed the tree.
Now contemplating, with no great enthusiasm, pruning our ancient pear. It's over 20 feet tall and I need to reduce the top branches quite a bit and I'll need to use an extension ladder and harness to get into the top. I put off the job last winter so must get it done this winter.

I'm sure you would tackle the task with much greater enthusiasm if you take a photo - with the sole intent on showing us your Before/After pics, eh? !!

I only did a little more clearing up, trimmed and weeded the edges of one lawn and did a bit more pressure hosing.

I suppose I had better try and finish the hosing, drain the machine down and store it before the frosts hit us tomorrow.

I, also, picked the last couple of hundred chillies and shall prune back the plants ready for their short winter sleep.

Ah, that was just yesterday, back to damp, dull and dreary today but much milder. Think I prefer frosty and sunny.
