Since it was dry, cleared some leaves and gave my acers a light pruning and removed quite Abit of dead wood from them.
Seeds ordered too many again but couldn't help myself :snork:

      Hi All

With this sunny blue sky and no rain , I managed to trim all the honeysuckle on the fences as they are just about starting to bud.
Went river side of the fence and cut all the new hawthorn and blackthorn down by half to encourage to be more bushy as they are coming into the 3rd year of being planted.

Pruned the grapevine & the Mullberry tree as its coming to the end of the season otherwise they will bleed from the cuts, and just had a general tidy around, the robin followed me everywhere I went and had a good feed at the same time this one is really friendly not like the one last it was off in a flash.

So not a bad start to 2013 .

      Spruce

That lot made me feel tired Spruce !
I just moved and tidied a couple of Clematis and put up a bird nesting box. Then back inside for a cup of tea.

Put my nine tree lillies into pots of compost - the pots are barely big enough to cope with them, but hopefully the cool environment of the greenhouse will slow them down sufficiently to get me through the next eight weeks or so and then I can hopefully plant them out

Alex, just in case you haven't grown them outside before, they can be very invasive so you need to be careful not to let them spread too far when you harvest them.

I've carried on tidying up and have tried sorting out the gutters on the greenhouse. Unfortunately, the screws and the wood they are attached to are coming apart. The greenhouse is 36 years old and I've spotted a lot of serious problems.

One section of the roof holding a glass panel (which is 30"x66") has sprung at the joint and is sliding out. I've made a temporary repair but it need some major work on it. The plastic clips that are holding the roof glazing are bending and lifting and all need to be reseated. I can't do that until the wood has dried out as it's too soft.

I'll have to wait until late spring/early summer and, when the wood has dried out, I'll paint hardener on it before repairing it (and put filler in where necessary). It's going to be a long job as the greenhouse is 20ft x 10ft.

Thanks for the post - you're right they can be very invasive and I make sure to remove all the root and small tubers from the area, that's partly why I experimented with growing in large pots.

Not outside, but I've looked through all my packets of seeds today and sorted them into some sort of propagation order as I only have one electric propagator. I didn't realise just how many I've got to get through this spring.

I've also been standing at the window studying my front garden as it looks like I'll have to dig out at least one more bed in the lawn to house what I'm hoping to produce. I intended to start work on the front this year anyway, as apart from keeping it tidy it's not been touched since I moved in eight years ago. Until now, I've been working on the refurbishment of my bungalow inside and splitting time between that and the complete 'renovation' of my back garden, which is now almost as I want it regarding the major work. :)

Cleared one bed of weeds and leaves. Dug out pit for green beans, put loads of veg peelings, shredded paper and other moist retentive material.

Turned through compost heap. Sown Parsley seeds, and trimmed Fuchsia, and put cuttings in propagator.

Sunday, going to finish some cutting back and tidying up. :autlvs:

Cleared out gutters on summerhouse which half filled a wheelie bin. It was mainly willow leaves and twigs.
