I've potted up an Acer and a Rhodo into containers. Such a beautiful day out there, no wind and clear blue skies

Must say I'm very impressed with B&Q's multi purpose compost with John Innes. Lovely soft crumbly texture and only £3 for 50L. Shall be stocking up next time I go.

After a very frosty start to the day it became more like an early summer's day.

I started on shaping some of the conifers and am now shattered! :phew: They're really a bit too tall for me to get to them comfortably. I use an extendable hedgecutter and stand on some steps but can't really reach the top properly. Holding the cutter at arms length is very tiring! :old:

I did these two - the privet hedge behind the first is about 6ft high

There's another one to do and that's the most difficult. It's between the other two.

Mrs Shiney has been making up pots and hanging baskets

She does all that type of work (I have trouble bending) and she does all the propagation of plants.

These are some of the pots etc she worked on today.

She decided that because of the weather other plants may not be ready to look clourful by Open Day so she has stuck to heathers, ivy and pansies and shall be doing more.

These are some of the plants she's been working on and is starting to tidy up the winter damaged ones before working on more. She hopes to do at least another 500 before Open Day.

A lot of the plants have been split from our existing ones or have been propagated from them. We shall start off the veg soon and they should be ready for sale in time.

Those day lilies are looking quite healthy and we shall dig up some more and pot them up. Sorry, but we don't remember what varieties they are but they aren't any of the really fancy ones.

Managed to get all the framework complete and beading fitted on the grow house I am building. And managed to get the first coat of preserver on, also painted my sons swing whilst I had the stuff out.

Hi Joolz, you're a lot higher up than me so I would leave it until the real danger of frost has diminished....maybe end of this month.

I planted all the bulbs I had not been able to plant due to the late Winter we've had. I also planted 4 out of the 8 Clematis I bought, the other 4 still look a little weak so I've left them in the Green House to grow stronger. I also planted a Clematis Armandii under my Acer Brilliantissimum to see if it will clamber up and around the branches. I then repaired an old gate by the house, replaced some trellis on the garden entrance, tied all the established Clematis to both sides of the entrance and swept the paths. While the cats were being fed in the early evening I painted Sadoline onto the step of the Kitchen door to seal it and protect it and then shut the door to make sure no paw marks appeared on the Kitchen floor. It should be dry in the morning and I'll do the same tomorrow night to give it a second coat. It's been a busy day but a really enjoyable one with the Sun shining, the cruel East Wind gone, and being able to actually feel the warmth of the Sun.....the first time this year.:snork::coffee:

It was very light at 7.45pm with birds still singing away and a delicate pink border to the sky on the horizon. All of a sudden it seems to have arrived,

Done some potting :) About 1/3rd of the cell-grown Hollies I bought have 2 or more plants in them, and decided I might as well have all the plants, even if it will put them back a bit, so did the more time consuming task of gently separating them and potting on. The place is getting rather crowded, and I'm wondering if I should buy a Tunnel to house them through the summer as the extra protection from wind, and warmth, will bring them on a lot compared to them sitting outside. Might be able to buy a bankrupt nursery on eBay instead ... :)

Weather is apparently set to get warmer from today on (ie above freezing at night), so today I will be potting on some large plants (heavy rootballs mean they are a nightmare to do) and also potting up some new plants. I have 16+ to do in all.

I also need to move a large planter from the bottom patio to the top patio, with the aid of my trolley (if I can actually get the planter up onto it).

I am also going to start off my Dahlia tubers in plastic pots in the greenhouse (subject to confirmation on another thread that it's okay to do so).

Off to Costco first for some more Dahlias and then to B&Q to a squillion more bags of compost.
