Went back out after dinner to make the wigwams for peas and beans. I was going to use the poles from the old blow away green houses, but then I had a brain wave. I want to makes frame for the raised beds to put netting over. I was going to make something out of wooden roofing batten. I decided as the blow away has all the corner connectors to use these. I ran out of netting so need to get some more though.

Grass half cut (hopefully I will be later!) - and camelia cut back to just the central trunks ready to be dug out. Just having a cuppa before cracking on

Well, I am now cream crackered - but feel as though I have got somewhere. Camellia is now gone (broke my spade in the process) so all I need to do tomorrow is weed and turn over the soil in that border then plant my tree lillies and sow my sunflowers. Rhododendron next to the now ex-camellia got a wee bit of a trim as it was sprouting in some places making it look a really odd shape, and some of the ones at the top were all yellowed (presumably nipped by the frost?) - I have loads of wee white flowers on the rhododendron this year that I don't recall seeing last year???

Grass is cut, and I scarified the area at the back where the wee one's trampoline sits before giving it a good stabbing with a fork and then sowed the grass seed (mixed with a mixture of compost and sand before liberally tossing all over the area) - sprinkler has been on it for the last hour or so, and I will give it another thorough soaking just before dark.

I'll be back later with some photos (hopefully won't bore you all to death!)

Hadn't been to our Landshare allotment for a week, we were shocked to see the weeds had grown by over a foot, now nearly 2 feet tall :gaah: . I was left with no choice but to use shears to cut them down along the 60 meters of the path (1/2 meter wide) around the beds.

              Before :nonofinger:
              image.jpg

              After
              image.jpg

But before I started, I picked some growing tips of nettles which we had for our dinner, really delicious and a very welcoming change from cauliflowers. :stirpot:

While I was cutting back weeds, Mr HsuH picked any usable broccolis before cleared away the plants. He also did a fair amount of digging, in preparation for planting next week. :psnp:

Now after 3 hours rest, he is still nursing his aching back and I'm fighting to stop my arms shaking all the time. We are so unfit suddenly!? :old:

Nearly finished moving things about in my front garden, emptying the large planters under the windows of over crowded aliums, moved the helebores into the borders, just about got room for my dahlias and fuchsia, then replant the planters with mini roses, some lavender and fuchsia, think I may put some ivy in to give year round interest.

Sorry I haven't posted these earlier - I got myself sat down with a beer or three and watched a load of Wheeler Dealers last night.

Anyway, here are a few photos of my wee garden and greenhouse with things starting to take shape:

Nasturtiums and marigolds (with a floppy tomato poking its wee head in at the bottom)
                IMAG0238.jpg

More marigolds, lavatera novella rose, dahlias and that droopy wee tomato again
                IMAG0239.jpg

Petunuas slowly recovering in the background
                IMAG0240.jpg

Tomatoes with peppers/chillies on the bottom shelf
                IMAG0241.jpg

                Better view of the peppers
                IMAG0242.jpg

Yet more tomatoes, with nicotiana in front
                IMAG0243.jpg

                More to follow......

Better view of the tomatoes on the bottom shelves, with more nasturtiums, malva zebrina, lettuce and parsley germinating in front (hopefully!)

                  IMAG0244.jpg

Nicotiana and the germinating stuff again
                  IMAG0245.jpg

My cheat hanging baskets with both trailing and upright nasturtiums hopefully germinating up there!
                  IMAG0246.jpg

And on to the outside - sprinkler watering in the patch at the back that has been scarified, aerated and then had a grass seed/compost/sand mix thrown over the top
                  IMAG0247.jpg

The now vacant space where the camellia was (border needs to weeded and tidied which is today's job; going to put sunflowers and tree lillies at the back, with dahlias, marigolds, fucshias etc toward the front.
                  IMAG0248.jpg

The other side which is also on today's job list - going to plant peas on the left of the tree, beans on the right.

And finally, lurking in the shed, I found this:

                    IMAG0250.jpg

We bought it years ago, and is had glass cups that held tea-lights, most of which are either broken or missing. It used to sit in front of the fire in the summer, however the house we are in now doesn't have a fire and it simply doesn't have any use indoors now - so, I am contemplating using the plastic cups to hold some sort of plants and it can brighten a corner of the garden??

                    Plant suggestions welcomed :)

                            Thanks all :)

Not sure about the alpines Sheal - don't know anything about them, so will have to do a bit of research.

Today, I didn't get nearly as much done as I hoped I would. I weeded and dug over the border where the camellia was:

                            Before:
                            IMAG0248.jpg

                            After:
                            IMAG0251.jpg

The ground was rock solid, and not long after starting one of the tangs snapped off my fork, so the majority of the work was done with a hand trowel. I followed up with a liberal sprinkling of chicken manure pellets, and then topped off with a wee drop of compost that I was removing from one of my growbags; I will have to give it a thorough watering later before planting anything as the soil is bone dry.

By the time I did this border and refilled one of the growbags with top soil ready for my onions, my back started to scream at me so I have had to down tools. Since sitting down half an hour ago, the pain has increased, so I have definitely pushed things too far :old:
