Stage 2 of new bed just completed. Removed any weed roots, edged the bed with my usual (yes, cast off wine bottles) and just waiting for Mr Mum to return so he can empty the compost bin into the site.

Hoping that by end of day I'll have it planted up and bark chipped! It's going to have:

~ escallonia (one apple blossom pink; other is a red one)
            ~ daylillies (evergreen)
            ~ hydrangea (Selena?)
            ~ Holly (Gold King?)
~ euphorbia (can't remember the type)
            ~ deutzia
            ~ smaller daylilies
            ~ yellow gladioli
            ~ nerine bowdinii
~ and I'm going to risk sprinkling in some annual seeds from a couple of old seed packets just because I'd rather try than throw them away (cornflower + taffeta poppy) :phew:

Mrs Scrungee asked me to mend our gazebo before it rains. Now that job's sorted out I've asked her to sweep the paths & patio.

Yesterday I only managed to do a lot of raking of debris from our willow and then mow a couple of lawns.

After last night's gale it looks as though I didn't do the raking!

I nipped out yesterday at lunch time to mow the grass as heavy rain was forecast. You may remember that last year I experimented with cutting 3 stripes side-by-side with my 24" cylinder to make "regency stripes" with a view to getting a wider mower; yesterday when I nipped out with the new (that's a joke! "Knackered old off eBay"!!) mower and was back in half an hour later. HUGE saving of time compared to yesteryear. I wonder if I will find a use for the 24" again, or if I should flog it??

Well, it started to rain at midnight last night and kept it up continuously until noon. But now it's drying up so when I've finished here it's old mucky jeans and tatty jumper on and I've sort out the Green House to make space for the buckets for the toms to go into today. So nearly all the compost I bought a few days ago will be in the buckets and I can give a sigh of satisfaction that the Toms are in their final position. We just need a lot more Sun than we had last year which was not good for tomatoes.:snork:

Last night was really productive, for the hour and a bit I had in the garden.
Planted out some bare-root aquilegias that I had been growing in pots.
Planted out a carnation that survived the damp of last year, the missus loves carnations so hopefully this will do well.
Planted out 2nd of 3 clematis montanas against a new trellis.
I know it's a bit late for planting sweet peas, but the first 2 lots failed so I had some soaking overnight and planted them along with some ipomea(which had started shooting in the water, overnight!)

Watered a few bits and made everything looked happy in the greenhouse.:)

After last nights heavy rain I've got home from work and me and the little un have been snail and slug hunting around the garden.
The slug pellets didn't seem to do much! Picked around 35 from around the hostas!

A bit cold this morning so did the shopping. Sunny and warmer (not warm) this afternoon so got more tidying and weeding done.
