My task today was to brave the traffic (:paladin: ) en route to meeting Mr Mum from work. I set off in plenty of time (well, 2hrs worth to be precise :heehee: ) and was forced to idle some time "window shopping"

Picked up a "toadstool" pot holder (which matches a "toadstool" ornament I was given as a gift last year) and then, in *another* shop, idling, found some "toadstool" solar lights. Totally (what's the word?) "cheap"? "Nasty"? "Trashy"? :dunno: But, they will look kind of cute in the copse (I HOPE!) :heehee:

    Synopsis: "Virtual" gardening today :coffee:

N'aww, hope mini Chimney is feeling better soon (strap socks on her hands so she doesn't scratch the spots and cause any scarring ;) Apply lots and lots of chamomile lotion too! :grphg:

As we've got our friends with us this week (ones who helped at the Open Weekend) we're not doing any gardening. It's a week of taking advantage of the weather to go walking, shopping (yech!) and pigging out. :dancy:

If anyone deserves a bit of a break, it's you and Mrs Shiney.
          How's the lawn now?

Planted out half of what I've grown this year and it's amazing, I don't think there's going to be enough to fill the beds and I've grown twice as much as last year. :doh:Still keeping to my early season resolution and getting the pots and trays washed and stored as I go long. :)

I have a huge pot of mint that wasn't thriving. It would take quite a lot to prevent mint from thriving, so I investigated, and sure enough there were at least 50 vine weevil grubs feasting on the (by now) almost non-existent roots. So I spent about an hour sorting through the compost, lovely fine stuff it was, trying to find every last one. Some of them were starting to metamorphose into buggy shapes, extra double yuck.

I threw them out onto the path expecting the resident robin to take an interest. However, before many minutes has passed, a file of ants had formed and were carrying off the vine weevils which were writhing horribly.

So, a big dinner in the anthill tonight............unless...........

                  ........they were rescuing them???

                    Busy day today:
                    ~ planted some
                    • Gardener's Garters (one plant, divided into four)
                    • aquilegias x 3

Mr M, meanwhile, decided to set to the "puzzle" of putting together a 'blow-away' greenhouse, given to me free the other week. Having watched him struggling, but only *after* I had completed my planting and watering, I helped it :) Now, I know the reputation for these blow-away's but, as it was free, I have nothing to lose by giving it a go.

Having put it in it's position and then moved the old chicken coop behind it, I realised it wasn't *quite* in the right place, so we had to move everything out of it (:oopss: ) to reshuffle it a few inches to the right a bit :heehee: After a further hour of debate as to what was actually going to go in there, I won, the job was completed satisfactorily

Then it was hot foot it, a 36 mile round trip, in time to collect the dog crate I won on Freecycle  And, as I was too early ( :oopss: ) I *just* had time to go to Poundland to see what gardening delights were lurking there.

                    So, bought:
                    • 2x 2mtr pot tape (slug control)
                    • 2 x pair of hanging basket coco-liners
                    • 2 x fleece (ready for Autumn)
                    • 2 x 'dragonfly' floating solar lights for my pond
                    • 1 x box of bonemeal
                    Banner day! :yay:

A free blowaway is better than nothing - just watch it doesn't get to sweaty in there when it is warm.

Today, I planted out my lettuce into a giant growbag, sowed another with radishes and a wee bit more lettuce, and planted my leeks into yet another giant growbag (hopefully they will reward me later in the year); after that, I fed the tomatoes, and watered everything (my new lance extension makes it dead easy!)

Not as much as I would have liked! (see my allotment section post)

Sown more carrots, peas and planted out a few more onions, that's the veg garden filled until I can complete work on the 2nd greenhouse.......

Now taking it easy with a nice pint of cider and a rather large dog trying to get herself on my lap!

I have made that same resolution Sheal - got really told off after hubby cleared out the greenhouses and found so many pots/trays "stored" under the shelving (as well as other stuff that I hoard need and use like supermarket meat containers as mini-propagators)

As I still have friends visiting collecting plants I spent all day re-potting and tidying up in general - still have no room though - all tables, chairs, shelving is full - BUT I have 2 empty greenhouses that are being filled with new sowings of herbs and stuff for next year :dbgrtmb:

Put the cannas and Thalia fuchsias in the borders.
Couple of cannas to put in, but :dunno: where to put them, no room :snork:
Plenty of watering and general titivating!
