Toms are going back outside -along with the contents of the mini GH. Gotta harden them all up. Planting French dwarf bean "Allegra" on damp kitchen towel in a plastic bag. Then in the airing cupboard 'til them wake up.Packet says 1 to 2 weeks. Think those forgetmenots are gonna have to go out the front. The hardy fuchsias underneath are searching for daylight!

Sounds like an interesting job Sheal, dry stone walls have always fascinated me, we don't have them round these parts so for me it's a novelty to see them when I travel to other parts of the country. I guess it's one of those jobs which isn't as simple as it looks.

Also, just asking; but if the tree was holding up the stake....do you actually need to replace the stake at all?

It's not the most attractive of walls Trunky but it serves a purpose, well did, until it started to collapse. I'll completely clear it as I go along and eventually replant. The wall is about 40 to 45 feet long and just over 3 feet high.

Growing on a sandy soil the trees take a good few years to make up. The base of the stem on this one is still only two inches across and with the strong winds we get here I'm not prepared to take the chance of it being snapped. :)

Sheal, that looks like a difficult job. In my younger days I did some training on building dry stone walls but they were nothing like that .

Is it actually a freestanding wall or just stones embedded in the soil? At the right hand end of the wall, where the stones are missing, it looks as though they were just embedded in the soil and the the stones next to that look as though there is some cement at the bottom.

If they're just embedded then I would be inclined to remove them, build a retaining wall with blocks, or similar. You'd need about 120 of them at approx £1 each - unless you can pick up damaged ones (which is all you'd need) at a fraction of that price. Then you can face it with your stones :dbgrtmb:

Shiney, the wall was here when we moved in and I suspect the rocks were 'half inched' off the local beach, it's not freestanding and was embedded. The stones from the righthand side are sitting on my patio waiting to be replaced. Yes, they were set in concrete, the last so called gardeners here were 'bodgers' and having run out of stone they set slate in concrete, which as you can see is a real mess.

I prefer the natural look of it and intend to plant in the front of the wall between the rocks with rockery plants, when the job is done.

Unfortunately I'm not working due to health issues and my other half is currently unemployed, so with no income it has to be a re-build. When the weather decides to give us a break of course! :)

Actually an almost dry sunny day today, though very cold
I jet washed the patio, and surrounding areas,
Transplanted eight tomato plants into the GH Border
Transplanted two Courgettes from GH to Garden

Usual daily watering of seedlings, I am struggling with Sweetpeas
Thankfully the ones I have been bringing on for the past thirty years are up
But the others I bought seeds look nothing like any sweetpea I have grown

The sweetpeas as I know them the plant looks like a pea plant
These bought ones look more like, well not peas more like ferns ?
so either all the little black balls I planted have rotted and the same weed taken their place or not I do not know, I will have to do a weed search on here

Found space to start some Cauliflowers, planted two outside at the moment, with six more available at two weekly intervals (No idea really so I treat them like lettuce, plant a couple of seeds every two weeks, in large plugs, now two are at five leaves and five inches put them out) I was not going to bother with Cauli as they are large and my ground is but small

                Then the five Grandkindlings arrived
                Game stopped play

Addendum, Whilst taking a break, I noticed two sparrows sat on the fence with their beaks full of leaves, they flew off but returned a couple of minutes later with three others, They then totally devoured my Budleiha bush 2.5' high, and left leaving a bare stem :-( (I did not stop them as first I was amazed at what I was seeing and second the top section had already gone in seconds)

I didn't do anything in the garden yesterday as the wet stuff was dropping.

Joolz, thanks for your kind words but I can't slow down as I've got to whip everything into shape, with less than two weeks to go and inclement weather.
