Wet and miserable here, so I've been to B&Q to return a plant. It wasn't too busy in B&Q but I went the same way as the Trafford Centre traffic and it was a nightmare - sat waiting at a roundabout for about 15 minutes because it was so jammed and nobody would let me out :nonofinger:

Whilst there I bought a couple more of the 70L GC compost at £3 each, some ericaceous compost, some bark chips and some coping stones, which I'm going to lay flat along the edge of the border so I can mow over them.

Went to Morrisons on the way back and ended up buying 'Alpine strawberry & tomato tiny tim seed disks' (whatever they are) so I guess I'm gonna try and grow something to eat for the first time ever :)

I also bought 4 fuschias :spinning:

    Annabel
    Pink Galore
    Jarry Gray
    Miss California.

The three trailing ones will go in a trough.

Best go and Google them because I've never grown them before :snork:

My butt attached to the garage is overflowing - I need to connect another butt to it because it just goes into the raised border via a pipe at the moment.

Wet day, so been having a pricking out session in the greenhouse. Potted up Pepper seedlings, pricked out Celeriac seedlings into larger trays, spaced out Tomato plants which are coming along nicely. Potted up some autumn sown Verbascum seedlings plus a random Rosemary seedling which had appeared in the same tray.
Changed the plug on the electric supply in the greenhouse, got it wrong and threw the trip switch in the house. Mrs Trunky not impressed.

          Kaz you're a genius!

It would be fairly easy just to drill a hole in the top of an ordinary plastic bin (I have a spare one) and put the pipe in there so the overflow goes straight in. Doh!

In fact thinking about it, it wouldn't be difficult at all to use a normal plastic bin as a butt - you could just buy the stand and attach a tap to the bin - or am I oversimplifying?

not at all merleworld that is exactly what i have done
very crude but it works [IMG]

i have added more to the arrangement since was taken, the top butts sit on an old table with taps on two of them and i have more bins underneath them on the floor and i find that black bins dont split in the frost like the green water butts do so added bonus

Chucking down here. Despite this, today I've got a few bits and pieces done.

Emptied the last few things of my heated propagator. Mostly just pots containing seeds that had failed to germinate. Mixed up a bucket of sterilising solution and cleaned the propagator, recently vacated small plastic pots etc, all ready for reuse.

Then in the pouring rain, been out and planted a load of peas. I only intended to plant a few but they got rained on, so I figured its either stick em in the ground or risk having them rot in the container. That bit was fate, or mother nature sending me a message, or some such, because I've learnt something important.

          1. When starting with a blank canvass, don't let rain stop play. As you gradually grow taller with ever step, as more mud sticks to the bottom of your shoes, you will realise where the paths need to go far more easily than if you merely look at the floor and try to visualise it.

          2. When starting with a blank canvass, don't worry too much that the ground hasn't been dug and improved etc everywhere yet. When you have a container of wet seeds that need somewhere to go, you'll soon enough make room for them, and then if they don't do as well as they might have because the ground wasn't fully prepared, so be it, something is better than nothing, and at least it'll give you some ideas.

You've been busy Folly Mon :) May I ask where you got those stones from which are edging the borders?

Today it's been persisting down most of the day, but I have managed to get out and re-plant a Clematis armandii to bury it deeper. I was slipping and sliding all over the mud, which was fun (not)

I've also chucked some compost on top of the border - will leave it there and dig in when it's a bit drier.

I've just heard someone starting up the lawn mower - the ground and grass is soaking as it's been raining hard for days - they must be bonkers :noidea:
