another 2 big jobs cancelled for the day

wind is howling and it's still drizzling here

managed to add some compost tea to a few plants this morning (in the rain) .... had to use it as the brew cycle was completed (leave it longer, then it goes 'off')

Apart from attaching rope to my laburnum tree , nothing else apart from feeding a family of sparrows , all I could find in the kitchen was rolled oats and museli but they seem to be enjoying it in the shelter of the bushes

      Hi all,

I came home from work on Friday to find the pop up grow house had popped up in the veg patch on the patio and on the lawn. The wind had smashed it to bits. Managed to get some part from work on Monday night to fix it, all back together now and my peppers and chillies are now planted out on there. Potted on some echinaea, dianthus 'artic fire' and sown some more lettuce.

I was at the time but with the parts 'I borrowed from work' it is actually really solid now and I have pinned ot down with tent pegs so hopefully it can 'huff and puff' and it will not blow my grow house down (fingers crossed). More gutted about the weather killing all my cucmber plants.

if it helps, after watching my blowaway rocking in the wind I purchased some ground anchors (http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Ground-An...603?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item2c62867393) - one of those in each corner & rope over the frame, it doesnt move now.

Its been such a weird (and busy) week - moved the shelving out of the polytunnel (complete with seedlings that are now getting really leggy) to make room for the cucumbers that were being evicted from the house; then after all the heavy rain at the start of the week, had to go round draining pots etc that had got blocked up and water logged; had to restake the tomatoes again, then had to put an electric radiator into the polytunnel so that I didn't lose my cucumbers it was so cold.

Today, just as the rain was starting, was a case of picking up some of the seedlings that had blown off the shelving, and then watering the ones that had gone from sopping wet to bone dry in what seemed like a hearbeat.

I really hope our new fencing gets done soon (still haven't had a confirmed date), and I can finally get them all planted out!

            Well where to start!
Been round to the grandmother in laws and mowed the lawn ( I say lawn more meadow lol )
Did loads and loads of weeding. Filled a wheelie bin!
Just got to dig over the borders for her now!
Think I will get the rain gear on and try and get it done over the weekend

Watered toms, peppers and chillies. Put some fertilizer in my borders and raised beds. Then checked my courgeetes and noticed that the wind had batered them and the courgettes had been on the compost and started to rot, i decided to stake them. I had no short stakes so needed to cut some, instead of going to the garage to get the proper saw i decided to use the bow saw in the shed and prompty drew it straight across my thumb. So after i had stopped doing i river dance impression around the garden and swearing at myself i decided to call it a day. Good thing though when i went in a thought i would look at Ebay to see if there were and greenhouss and there is a decent 8 x 6 only about 15 minutes away from my house so fingers crossed i win it.

Overdone it again today, first day off anti biotics, and can sort of breath again

I am getting a new wall built, so I moved all the potted plants against the wall and spread around the front garden, then shovelled 2 ton of stones to a holding base at the back of the house
Dug out a 40' trench along the remaining wall

Then for relaxation, I "plumbed" in a second water barrel to my greenhouse gutters
I originally had the left side of the greenhouse gutter draining into a barrel, on the right, which was fed from the right gutter
Today I cleared a space and placed new barrel, then ran a hose "clipped" along the fence back to the rear of my greenhouse,, disconnected the feed to original barrel and fed it to the new barrel

              Then my Gardening TEAM arrived

All real gardening then stopped, we picked pick and grow again leaves, and ate them, then a radish each. After that it was the swing, and chase the piggies game !

They went home, I sat down, and six hours later have now siezed up, I can not straighten up without pain, I can "Breathe" though

Another great day long may they last, Ten days to me taking them all to ITALY on holiday, five grand kidlings 3/3/5/8/13 OMG

The 13 year old, did a presentation on Euthanasia to St Andrews UNI
She is there today, staying overnight, she gained a distinction.
Tomorrow, the family are going to her Junior, "Graduation" ceremony

Dead proud, When I was 13 I was still playing in the fields and new nothing

Now I am 65 and still know NOTHING, Other than attending the UNIVERSITY OF LIFE and hard knocks

Don't overdo things, Jack :) (Bit late to say that now.)

It's great that your granddaughter has done so well :dbgrtmb: - but I'd be a bit concerned about her subject if she was looking in your direction. :heehee:

MY CONSERVATORY IS EMPTY ... YEAH!

Final plants moved out last night, although not all planted yet, the stragglers are out but still hardening off.

Latest I've ever been, normally its empty by mid May

Capillary matting now fully operational in greenhouse, and that is stuffed with propagated plants, but just needs the water topping up each day.

This is how it looked at the end of May:
