What jobs are we doing today in the garden ?

Well yesterday I potted up my full tray of Bottlebrush (Callistemon) seedlings; all 40 of them , they're all now between 6 and 8 inches tall, I pinched out the tops of most of them to encourage side shoots but also left some as I thought it might be fun to try and grow some on as standards. Don't ask what I'm going to do with 40 of 'em just can't bring myself to bin any off when they look so healthy, so no doubt I'll have a few for sale and/or donate soon

Also spent some time picking Strawberries, Raspberries and Peas....yummmmmy

Potted up 2 Fuchsia Thalias into larger pots, they're looking really good, flower buds just forming..

Potted up a young Hawthorn into a "bonsai" pot, going to have a go at creating a bonsai tree, just a bit of fun..

Still got more to do so hoping for a few more days like yesterday, which was mainly dry, warm and sunny but without being too hot and humid..

 

Marvelous achievement I wonder would it have been better to fill say bottom 25% with polystyrene to help with drainage,and weight as only the tree deep rooted and all the rest look pretty shallow,help make it lighter as well,

As pamsdish said, you could have filled the bottom with polystyrene (I collect it for this reason).

Did you move it after you'd filled it or before?

Today's jobs will consist of pruning back some unruly bits of Wisteria and going to Altrincham to pick up some David Austin roses.

 

I will probably spend the day trying to find basic info on pruning a morello cherry tree....again, on Friday the girls brought home 3 pot's of something green so they had to be potted on into bigger pots, after mass debates it turns out they are broad beans which I'm sure need to be in the ground and not pots

 

Shiney your are a star this is exactly what I have been looking for, simple and easy instructions and with the added help of diagrams, I don't feel so worried now and I must admit I did put it off last year yes bad of me I know.

 

Folly, you should have put a false bottom in the barrel, or filled it with polystyrene first.

Looks good though, and no one is ever gong to be able to lift it to steal it.

 

Pickling some beetroot today ready for Christmas, transplanting my second lot of Leeks, got some training wires to fit in the greenhouse. Very cloudy and damp here today so theres not much else I can do.

just back from car boot very restrained (no room left) only bought a mallow and an astibe oh and a copy of the RHS gardeners encyclopedia dated 89 but the plants do not change much just variations

 

Couple of hours sun this afternoon, managed to get my grass cut
3 of my Gloriosa seedlings are growing happily- tubers are still less than 1" though so I don't know how many years before they flower. Potted up Rehmannia seedlings, I'm a bit worried as they aren't very large [about 2" tall] and although they are perennial they're not fully hardy
