I take it that you garden in Acid soil then, Merleworld. It's funny how gardeners like me who garden in neutral soil always want to plant acid loving shrubs in our borders.!!!:dunno::snork: Keep us all up to date with pics.....please!!

Watered in the new turf, (well it is bucketing down with rain)
Pricked out into mini pots 100 marigold seedlings, and 100 Petunia seedlings

Planted in the greenhouse 3 leggy Shirley tomato plants, stripped some leaves then burried deep up to the next available set of leaves, same with two tumbling tom's

Re-potted two Courgette plants, that are going wild in three inch posts, do not know what to do or how to grow them so put them in a large Morrisons flower bucket each and placed in the greenhouse

Started another set of runner bean, and pea seeds off, as originals have not shown anything (four weeks now)
Again more sweetpea seeds, from saved seeds, as for the first time in years original planting has not shown, (special seeds, saved from my fathers originals after he crossed the Bar) That is I saved the seed pods and evenutally got round to planting them years later, and they came good, so I propogate them on each year now (not the original 30 year old seeds :-)
Grandchildren stopped play at 15:20 :-)
After they had planted up some sweetpeas of their own, raddishes and three lettuce, they may have drowned after the watering given enthusiatically, but hey I will do the recommended trick, and if nothing shows, find some that have and swap out

Our soil is clay but slightly on the acidic side and a wide variety of plants seem to love it :blue thumb: I've got the ericaceous plants such as Rhododendrons, Camellias, etc but also stuff like Osmanthus, Elaeagnus, Viburnum, Hazel and my neighbour has tons of mature shrubs just the other side of the fence which aren't acid loving.

The challenge, as with any clay soil, is to improve the drainage (which is pretty pants in the back garden), so I have to dig in lots of organic matter, but only in the back garden.

I have just dug some compost into the front borders too, but the whole front garden is raised above street level so the drainage is much better there.

My garden is mostly still in its infancy and I find I'm still moving plants around but I will post pics for you once I've done what I want to this summer

Ooooh. Lots of pictures promised by us all.Isn't this "addictiveness" so early in the growing season fun. And they can't jail us for it. Looking forward to yours Merleworld. I do hope that the summer is going to be kind this year. All this rain is bringing stuff on like crazy. Our drive back from Swanage was a mass of pretty Cherry ,Magnolia, Lilac,Wisteria, Camellia blossoms and wild bankside flowers too numerous to mention. And now the sun has just put his hat on .W:dancy: eeeeeeeeeeee
Jenny namaste ooops. forgot to mention what I am doing today. Going to split up a clump of Viola "Freckles" and plant her in bits around the edge of our common walkway border. She is full of buds today and as the soil is moist ,the plantings should bed in easily I hope.

              Good morning Keith,
do you recall telling us there was a clematis along the wall "that is COMING OUT!" Is it out and burnt to ash yet or can we see it before it's too late please?

Not done too much unpacking, but the bed is done (hassle we had getting it up to the top floor was unreal!).
Rarely drink Cognac, as when I start I don't stop until the bottle is done!!

It's the neighbours so I need to kill it by stealth!!!

As if I'd be so sneaky!!
Me and the male half of the neighbours are in agreement about it - female half needs persuading!

I'm sure you'll find ways of getting her on your side. A nice plant or two perhaps from your desirable collection......?
