Managed to get a couple of large pots replanted with summer bedding.

They previously each contained a large Box plant trimmed into a cone shape, I'd had them in there for at least 10 years, probably more, but they were starting to look a bit ropey and kept falling over during very windy weather in winter, so they had to go.
Can't quite bring myself to throw them out though, I cut them back very hard before removing them from the pots and surprisingly there were plenty of new shoots in the centre of each one. They're currently sitting at the bottom of the garden getting rained on and awaiting their fate, I'll probably end up finding a space for them somewhere and replanting them, I'm just not ruthless enough to throw them out.

The winter brassicas and wallflowers I sowed last weekend are already emerging, as usual I covered the seed bed with black plastic netting to stop cats and foxes digging it up.
Has anyone else noticed what an excellent snail trap this is? I use 20mm square mesh netting, simply spread over the soil surface, and every morning there are invariably several snails entangled in the mesh. It appears that they can get their heads through the net, but then the shell gets caught up and they can't move at all!
At the beginning of the week I was finding up to ten snails each morning (which are collected and fed to the hens), but it's now down to just one or two, so either I've eliminated most of the snails, or they're getting clever and avoiding the net!

Made friends with the earth today by getting up close and personal with the weeds. Did loads because of the wet soil.
Delighted to see two flowers on the non flowering agapanthus - a bit late but very welcome.
Had a tiny wren in the greenhouse but he managed to get out without human intervention.
The rain has held off although it's looked very black at times. I'm glad I didn't go to the Latitude Festival.

Despite the rain it hasn't been a bad day.

I visited a friend for a couple of hours, then pulled my finger out and extended our sand stone path that leads to the wooded area. I really didn't want to extend it, as I felt that it spoilt the flow of the main pathways, but after having the school party visit the garden last week, I decided that it was a must. In the end, the result wasn't so bad.

I also decided to try and make one of the eyes for the next sculpture. I made three eyes before deciding which one looked right. It isn't quite finished, but it's close.

First job was to drill holes and fix dowel as a way of packing a void around the eye socket.

Just need the glue to set, and then do a bit more sanding before staining or burning the eye black.

Well managed to mow the lawns and do some tidying up.
Cleaned the filter on the pond
Garden not looking too bad despite all this rain
Keeping looking on different websites to get some new ferns, irises and a astilbe for my tropical/Japanese theme patio.

Made a hole in the floor of the greenhouse in one corner and planted a vine. As with all of my 'special plants' I have given it a name and called it Marvin.

The astilbes are loving this weather - they're flowering better than ever this year. Must get my camera out and take some pictures.

Oh Folly Mon, you poor s*d. I know what its like I have been stuck on Tramadol ever since I trapped a nerve in the spring time and couldn't move and couldn't get any relief from the pain. Take it easy and be extra careful you don't make a false move. Wish you better soon!

Today, about to nip to the local garden centre and get some potting compost.

Maybe I'll pick up a Musa basjoo for a pot too, maybe.

That is a very nice garden, Mowgley, full of colour and well maintained.:snork:

I hope you're making progress, Folly Man, and getting towards being better and pain free.:snork:

I've fed all the Roses in the borders with Tomato Feed, followed by the Tomatoes in the Green House, then the Clematis on the Trellis entrance, followed by all the pots and containers of Bananas, Cannas, Roses, Dahlias, and various shrubs. Then I fed the fish in the pond who seemed to be queuing up for it!! Then I've dead headed in the borders, and the pots and containers with the Rose "White Skyliner taking the most time because of the literally hundreds of flowers it has. After that it was reading the riot list to the cats after a spat they had!!:cat-kittyandsmiley: Then I retreated to the Arbour with a mug of tea and started tying up and training the Honeysuckle and Roses on the sides. It should look really good next year with hopefully all of them climbing to the height of the roof. At the moment the roses are around 4 to 5 feet high while some of the Honeysuckly is already at the eaves of the roof. We're always looking forward to something we Gardeners:heehee::snork:

painted the 2 fence panels, posts and gravel boards surrounding the decking in cream!! didn't want to go for the black here as i want some light reflecting in the kitchen from the fence. it looks very mediteranian!

cut the grass, weeded and watered and fed all my plants.
