    Sorry, I missed your earlier post or I'd have mentioned this sooner.

    Google (and other search engines) find you much faster if other sites link to yours, so one of the first steps in getting your site to appear in the lists is to get as many relevant sites to link to you as you can. They have to be relevant though, as you get marked down if loads of rubbish sites point to you. Just as important is the content on your page. You have to try to strike a balance between what is right for the reader, ie easy to read and not too verbose, and what an automated thing will read, which needs to be enough for it to get its teeth into so to speak. Its a whole subject in its own right, too much to write here (there are entire books on the subject), but the idea is to get as many relevant links to your pages as possible, some of these will be links on your site to other pages on your site. Get enough written material on there for the search engines to work with. Make sure your site validates against the W3C and WCAG guidelines, and the most often overlooked one, always give any images a suitable 'alt' attribute. I know that's a lot to take in, but for further reading, it might be worth googling and reading up on the following terms:

    * SEO (Search engine optimisation)
    * WCAG (web content accessibility guidelines)
    * W3C (worldwide web consortium)

    Good luck.

    Thank you clueless1. I am aware of what Google likes, I just assumed the website name would be up and running almost immediately, once registered correctly.

    My first website was up and running after a few hours, but at the time I started it so to speak "in fifth gear" it had many pages and many articles.

    This one first of all is written in Italian, which in itself could slow it down, and then it has only the landing page, with little content in it.

    So it looks to me as if I have to write more even before it goes online!
    PS are you into websites at all?
