What exactly does Wo-be-tied mean?Teachers were always screaming this at me.For example;in the science lab when i turned the bunsen burner into a flame thrower thingy.CRACK,round the lug hole, "wo-be-tied if i catch you doing that again girl!" Tied up in sorrow?or Stop, tie that child up,she`s a menace. :D

when i was a kiddo, i always asked where things were, and the reply from my dad was always the same,
"up in annies room behind the clock" [IMG]
and if we ever got lost, the excuse was. " we went all round wills mothers." or if there was a dark cloud coming towards us or skirting round us, it was always described as "dark over wills mothers" [IMG]
I did once ask "who the flipping hell is will and his mother?" I was about 9 and got a clip round the ear. [IMG] But i still have no idea who they are, nor did i ever find an annie with a clock in her room. [IMG]
But now i find myself saying them.

    :D

I remember that "annies room behind the clock" thing, compostee, never made sense to me either, but I never really thought about it, you dont if you hear it from a young age.
As for the dark clouds thing it was always "dark over John cods oats" God knows what that meant. :D

We were told "its black over Bills mothers" when the weather looked a bit suspect!
When it thundered my Nan used to tell me that it was only "the angels making the beds" - love that one! [IMG]

Well I'll go to the foot of our stairs, there are some different forms of the same sayings. When it was thundered we were told it was the angels moving their furniture.

You know what thought did, he followed a mud cart and thought he was going to a wedding.

A stitch in time saves nine

An apple a day keeps the doctor away

    Time waits for no man

Children should be seen and not heard

Smile and the world smiles with you, weep and you weep alone

If you think you can, you can, if you think you can't you're probably right

Like two peas in a pod

People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones
