    Aye! It's tattie time!

Told to me by a native Fifer as we watched skein upon skein of geese heading for winter quarters at Loch Leven - 1st Monday in October is a traditional holiday and the school kids used to help with the tattie picking. The geese always arrive at this time of year.

Not enough room to swing a cat!

from old shipfaring times when the confines of a ship wouldn't allow the shipmate to swing his cat o' nine tails (whip) to render punishment on some unfortunate crewman (I believe!)

Some of these old sayings are great, does anyone know what they mean and where they come from? I think it would be interesting and surprising to
find out where they originate from. Does anyone think the same [IMG]
