I think I need a thread "what are you not doing in your garden right now?"

According to all the guides, I should be sowing vegetable seeds, and, lol, mowing paths in long grass in meadow areas....
Ummm - you can't mow snow!

I did sow some veg seeds last week when it was quite warm. I even got my two new fruit trees in. But it's been below or around freezing now for 4 days. It is supposed to get warmer, with rain this afternoon, after a dry morning. But as usual, the local weather doesn't listen to the forecasts - instead of clear skies, we have light snow.

I guess I'll be playing catch-up for the rest of spring...:(

Hi Sian, it's nice to see you back. :) We're all struggling here too, it's still so cold with intermittent snow showers as well.

I have a lot of seeds under way having started earlier this year with so much to get through and currently have 25 trays of seedlings sitting in a spare room, they really need to go into the greenhouse but it's too cold of course! I still have more seeds to get under way including all the tomatoes, it's difficult making the decision whether to plod on or hold fire until the temperature rises.

Gotten really cold. Lots of my bulbs are braving it. Still more to rake out. Hopefully this weekend the sun will be warm.

All my Daffs are through and a lot of my crocus too are head up.
Snowdrops are all but done, but the forsythia is now coming into flower.
I must try to get on top of the weeds(native plants not wanted) as they will take over the main bed. Trouble is it is still too wet to get on the ground.
Field run off is at an all time high with the thaw breaking the tundra down.
We have a brook that goes to the rear and this is over flowing.

Still raking leaves, picking up many wheel barrels of twigs, limbs, branches for the burn pile. Already burned one huge pile, working on the next. Digging up packed in daffs and separating back in the ground, up to several hundreds now. Have some sawing have to do with ornamental trees, limbs are not right. Still have to rake out the heath and heather slope, cut down the winter dead sedums.

Tomorrow sees the day in which I get to grips with gardening.
I am going to take a few well earned days off and relax in the garden with a bucket and spade. (No not sand, weeding)
After that I shall be on my best behaviour and sort out more room in the greenhouse for more plants to go in and of course a stool for me to sit on with a place for me kettle and mug. That way my dirty wellies do not go into the house.

Broad beans have been put in the ground.:psnp:

Weeding again more to do when they show up.

Got a surprise in the post today, 16 mini fuchsia plants came, so they have been put into 3" pots to grow on. :dancy:
Chameleon, Pink Elephant, Twist and Shout, finally no name ( I named it fairy blue)

Watered my clematis and wonder when to put them in as they are growing away well and roots are coming through the bottom of the pots.:dunno:

With it being so windy, I do not want to start anything which involves tall as it might blow away.:runforhills:

That it would Sheal, but space is a premium and the shelter from those biting winds is good from the fencing along the border. I have to make room for all those seeds which need to be sown again.:wallbanging: All my veggies have given up the ghost at the moment and all there is to see is compost in cells, a bit like jail for the with no escape.

After last years bad weather, we're all now suffering again trying to get things growing for this year. Gardening can be so frustrating at times but we still persevere, optimism I think it's called! For the first time this year I've had quite a few seed failures, I'm wondering whether the seed collected last year, being sold this year, is under par.

If at first you don't succeed.........:)

Just been out trying to dig through the border, and found that the soil is sticky wet about an inch or two below the surface. So no chance of getting this done before returning to work next week. Clay clods are full of weeds and have to be broken down with the roots removed before leaving. Five times more work just to do one part of a border.
I too have had the bug bare of seed not germinating Sheal, most of them have been reseeded to get me going again. So annoying.

Border is coming along now with a good area of weeds cleared. Must remember that the boss is watching me, as she who must be obeyed will not forgive me if I overdo it.
Lovely day for just going for a walk in the fields with the dog and the better half though.
Now I have to sit down and enjoy the moment and a nice cup of tea.

We've got a run of Min 10C nights coming up, so took the opportunity to put-out-and-leave-out a number of over-wintering "Exotic" plants out into a sheltered spot to "harden off" such that I won't have to bring them in each night (until we get frosty nights again). Gingers, Cycas, slightly tender Palms, Tree Ferns ...

The plants I was hardening off last week (out in the day, in at night) are also going to stay out now. Those that are frost-hardy will, probably, stay out if we get 4 frost-free nights and then get some frost.

Seems as though there are a few more frosty nights to come, so I am having to run round and put Pj's on a lot of plants till the nights warm up a bit.
