I am so sorry Victoria Plum - I have no useful information for you - but I just had to say that......

Whenever I log on and click on 'new threads', this thread is there.......and I see the title.......and I think 'well, sleep in them of course!'....... Sorry, must be in a silly mood tonight :)

But now having read your thread......

Raised 'berms' are quite popular back in Canada, but are mostly with curved edges to give a sort of 'rolling hills' effect in flat gardens. When mature, the perennials give a lovely display of colour and height. I will actually have a look through some old photos and see if I can find some to scan in and show you.

Well... if I try to sleep in them I just know I'm going to scare myself silly. One, creepy crawlies and two, out on my own after dark! I may be 34 but deep inside I am still 8!

Strangely I do seem to be coming round to the mounded look. I waited and weeded last year, so I know what's there. Some perennials need to moved to another bed, but mainly I need to do good deep weed. I may move some soil out to enable me to really work it, then move it back in. There were hundreds of granny bonnets last year, but I remember the foliage being a pain all summer after flowering.
