When we went to see our first puppy, we knew which one was ours and she promptly hid under the sofa- the others all came to greet us. Next time we visited, she was first to us. She was a lovely dog.
When I've been gardening the dogs are very keen to lick salt off- I've noticed that gnat and mosquito bites, to which I am very prone, stop itching after a good licking....

Someone said in an earlier post that a dogs mouth is cleaner than our own..that is very untrue, they are teaming with bacteria thats why we seek Tetanus injections if we are unfoutunate enough to receive a bite from a dog

Hi, Poppy33, long time no hear ... been on hols?

What about a cat's mouth? I read somewhere yonks ago that there is an "antiseptic" property in their saliva which is why they can heal wounds .. an old wives tale?

Thanks Bannana Man and LOL [IMG] LOL I am sorry to hear that you too have been through a difficult time. Sad thing is my Mum lost her first husband (my Dad) to lung cancer 18 years ago, he was 54 when he died, we were all so happy when my mum found happiness again and re married again.Sadly this was not to last as she is now facing the same situation once more Rob(my step father) was only 57 when he died,my poor mum my heart goes out to her. Thanks for your kind words.

Good to see you back, Poppy - really missed you.

No words can help your loss and it must be truly awful for your Mum to have to go through the same dreadful experience twice.

Lost my Dad to liver cancer at the same time that my son was receiving chemotherapy for lymphoma. Dark days, but my son survived. Your dark days will pass too and the sun will shine even brighter. It does get better and time will heal.

Sorry to hear of your loss poppy. Tough time I know.

LOL from my Accident and Emergency days, I would say that a cats saliva has no antiseptic qualities - a cat bite can be very nasty though not as nasty as a human bite. The reason why they heal so quickly, like other self cleaning animals is that they keep the area clean and indeed stimulated by that rasping tongue.

LOL, Trying to avoid the question..thing is we had a tutor who worked in practice and she died from a cat bite..don't want to be an alarmist I am sure its not that common, did make us all a bit jittery for a while after her death, she did not work at my practice. If we get a bite or scratch I now give it a good scrub with Hibiscrub just to make sure.

What a very sad time for your mother Poppy, to have to go through it twice!

I lost my father very suddenly and my mum who was always a creeking gate survived him by 11 months. It was hard at the time for us left, but looking back with time, nice that they had both lived for each other and died almost together.

I heard thae tale of dogs saliva having anticeptic in it. did anyone see the programme on some dogs being able to detect cancer of the skin? They licked the skin as a detection which enabled early treatment. Fascinating programme.
