Love your deep red Acer @merleworld , we have one which is about 1/4 the size and is 2 years old... I'd like it to be growing a little quicker ideally - any tips for making ours into the beast that yours is?

Some lovely photos on here and get a little insight into other peoples gardens which is always interesting and enjoyable.

@merleworld that is a lovely collection there, are they all in big pots?
@longk am I getting mixed up but is to the plant you've posted pictures of before but are tiny blue pendulous bells? I love that one. Can't remember the name but Solsomething.
@Melanie Raguenaud is that Hechera Coral Bells? I really like that though it is I think now considered 'old fashioned' and difficult to buy since the more splashy hecheras came on the market.
@Trunky the blue of that aquillegia is really nice, is it from seed?

Hi @Ben James I bought my Skeeter's Broom two or three years ago in B&Q at the end of the plant season when it was looking very bedraggled and half dead. It should have been £40 but I haggled them down to £20. Took a chance really but it's paid off and I love it, not only because of its stunning colour but I love the upright habit. It was a decent size when I bought it (about 2/3 of its current size) and they do grow slowly unfortunately. I planted it in ordinary general purpose compost and it gets a feed of ericaceous slow release fertiliser in spring (about half the recommended dose) but apart from that, I don't do anything to it apart from keep it watered occasionally. It's planted next to the house in an east facing position, so it gets morning sun which disappears around lunchtime. Just make sure to keep it out of the wind and don't feed it too much. Other than that it's just time I'm afraid, unless you purchase a larger plant (I've also got a small one in the front garden which I think is too close to a sycamore so I'm going to dig it up and move it into a container - maybe we can keep up to date on each other's progress).

Hi @Gay Gardener and thanks. Apart from picture 2, all the plants shown are in containers. I loooove your garden btw :spinning:

Great info - thanks! Ours was bought only last autumn from Homebase for £7, so it's still tiny, I'd estimate at about 90cm tall. It's doing well though, in a container on our back patio. It is noticeably better than last year in terms of growth. I think ours suffered from some wind damage or lack of water last year as it got bad leaf scorch which scuppered it's growing. I've read up now so know what I need to do! I'll add a photo in later and we can indeed compare growths! Ours is in standard compost which I topped up a bit this spring. Just waiting for it to grow a bit and look more like your magnificent one in your first pic!

These are Heuchera x brizoides ' pluie de fue'. They seem to be in abundance in the garden centres here so not sure if that makes them unfashionable. I'm new to flower growing so don't have any concept of garden fashions. :-)

                  Hi GG,

I also love the old fashioned Heuchera " Coral Bells". If you have a Poundland near you they may have some, they're currently selling a lot of the old cottage garden plants, proper plants in 3" pots.
We bought some earlier on and they are just coming into flower so will post piccys later in the week.

PS.... Bought another old fashioned plant today a Lychnis Chaledonica " Maltese Cross ".

These were some of our winter pansy hanging baskets. We've just dropped them into some pots whilst they're still giving a good display.

It is from seed GG, they seed themselves all over my garden and if they're not in the way I just leave them to their own devices. Can't remember what the variety is, I've had them here for years now.

I'd be happy to save some seed for you later on if you want some. :dbgrtmb:
