And these appeal to me for their form, or colour, or both.

    CIMG0049 (769x1024).jpg

I love how the sun shining through the leaf brings out the richness in colour

    CIMG0076 (768x1024).jpg

Again, it is the colours of the leaves which I love here

    CIMG0084 (1024x767).jpg

The last flower in the Chaenomeles has almost gone, but the colours of the new foliage is so pretty

    CIMG0073 (873x1024).jpg

Another "unknown" but not only do I like the colour, I love its shape!

@"M" The little daisy in your previous post but one, looks like an Erigeron karvinskianus (?)
and the last one in in the above post is a type of Sedum but I can't think which species it is.
You are correct about the Geum

Thank you @Michael Hewett - yes, Erigeron it is; how silly of me to forget because it was a fellow GC'er who put me on to it in the first instance  :heehee:
I'm a bit thick when it comes to sedums/semperviviums (?) they are a total mystery to me.
Thank you for confirming the Geum :)

@longk yes Sollya is the one, so pretty, I must look out for it.
@Melanie Raguenaud well who cares what is fashionable or not, lovely plants many of the oldies that have fallen out of use
@Anthony Rogers well not really close, 10 miles each way, but I will look at what they have the next time I'm there. Yes Maltese Cross is another one that has fallen out of favour but I like very much.
@Sian in Belgium lovely pix, I particularly like how you've put your herb garden together, looked grand.

Oh and by the way - Sod Chelsea, much better gardens on GC and they are all flowering in season, have personality and done with love :):)

              Hi Sian,

You've done it again with that Viburnum. Another one I remember from my youth :)
We used to call it the Snowball bush.
One of my aunts used to have it as a hedge with loads of the old purple Flag Irises ( Iris Germanica ) underneath it. It used to look stunning :)

Thanks for the Laburnum piccy :)

@"M", post #196 picture 3......Houttuynia 'Cordata' has lovely foliage but can be a devil if let loose in the garden, it throws out runners. I had mine in a large pot. :)

Is it just me but are we seeming to grow more of the old fashioned " cottage garden " type plants and ignoring the do called " fashionable " ones.

I've loved looking through this years " May " thread.

We've had everything from the double Aquilegias, Peonys, Cornflowers ( Centauria ) and what I call true Heucheras ( not the new fangled ones but proper Coral Bells ) all the way through to the larger trees like Laburnum and Viburnum Opulus.

I'd like to say a big thanks and well done to all :)

Thank you @Sheal :) yes, I was aware because when I first got a piece I posted about it :heehee: (coincidently that was from my first ever trip to Shineyland :snorky: ). Initially, I planted some in the copse end of my garden in the previous house - it used to get flooded periodically - but, it never survived the flooding! Thought I must have been the world's worst garden if I was able to kill it!!
Fortunately, I had another piece in a pot which I brought here with me. It is planted in my "Bog Garden" pot, along with an astilbe, sambucus nigra and a hosta, which I planted up this week. It just suddenly occurred to me they might all like to be together :doh:And there it will stay

@Tracy_x that's a lovely calendula, another plant that is used less and less I don't know why, what variety is that? One of those plants that for the life of me I cannot successfully grow despite them supposedly being simple as pie

@Anthony Rogers - I do think you see less of the traditional cottagey garden plants, I guess things go in cycles. I grow a fair few, but that is just because I like them and they suit the kind of garden I have and they seem quite robust. Centuria Montana, Polemonium, Veronicas, Dianthus, Achillea, Anthemis, Alchemila, the old Cranesbills and Lavenders (can't say I'm fond of the new french ones somehow) etc.
