What'a looking good in May

    I've got some digging to do here! English bluebells to the left and Spanish to the right. I thought I dug out all the Spanish last year :doh:

    I said a few days ago that ours were only just starting to show. They've suddenly made up their minds to get moving. I think this hot spell has done it. We've got quite a lot of pots with them in.

      Exochorda is just opening and so is the tree peony lutea ludlowii

      The big (6ft x 6ft) Euphorbia mellifera in the front garden is just flowering (the smaller one in the back garden flowered a couple of weeks ago)

      Sophora is still going strong and it started earlier than usual - in January

      The welsh poppies are flowering a little bit earlier than the Californian ones (which are just showing colour in bud)

      And a few of the plants being prepared for sale for Open Day. They've been good enough to start flowering in time for it - which helps them sell quicker. :blue thumb:

        1st photo is of the Iris Japonica @longk kindly sent me a bit of a couple of years ago. As it has variegated leaves I was dubious as to how well it would withstand my less than kind climate so I "cheated" and have it in my unheated greenhouse during the winter. The plant has bulked up very well so I am going to keep part of it in the greenhouse and the rest of it (poor bu..er!) is going to be planted out to see if it will cope.
        2nd photo is to show the kind of damage my garden endured during the somewhat freak heavy fall of snow on the 29th April, the branch of the Cherry post being tidied up with my chainsaw is quite large but just twisted and split due to the weight of snow. Much swearing and tantrum ensued.:)
        3rd photo is to show all was not lost and despite the snow and quite severe frost some plants were sheltered that little bit and are putting on a good show. I have many Rhododendrons looking great and some not so thanks to the weather but didn't want to bore the socks of you with loads of photos!

          Show us some more of your Rhododendrons please.

          Especially for those of us that can't grow them due to limited space.

              Not sure EXACTLY what you are meaning @shiney :). My plants are still relatively in their 1st youth, I on the other hand......... the less of me seen these days the better, definitely no selfies! but if you want to see a few more... mothers plants 076.JPG mothers plants 074.JPG mothers plants 109.JPG
              Bored yet? If you aren't already you will be by the end of the month as loads more to flower as best here to have late flowering due to frosts in late April beginning of May. Have at least another 30 odd to flower but promise not to post photos of them all:snorky:.

                  Looks much less slug eaten than mine!
                  I've had this since 2008 so it has survived the winters of 2009 and 2010!

                        That's a gem Nigel. My aroids are barely breaking the surface here.
