Beautiful bee pics Wiseowl and the moth/butterfly is fab nFrost - never seen one like that.

"Our" bees have safely moved home now - still a few flying stragglers returning to the shed - and lots of sponge/foam which I think might smell of the nest and be attracting them. I am trying to sweep this out (in quick bursts ) putting it outside their new home to hopefully attract them - but still lots left - never knew there was so much stuffing in 2 cushions :yikes:
A lot of the workers/non-fliers were inside a parasol (now stained and ruined) - Mr S lifted it up (with 2 sticks either end) and took it to the nest - which is now inside the compost bin with the flap off - I will lean a bit of wood up against it soon to cover it, leaving a gap for access. They seem to know we are trying to help - a couple of stranded workers were clinging to the outside of the shed - they eagerly climed onto a twig so I could transport them. It's not over yet though - Once we get a dry day everything has to come out of the shed (including fridge, freezer, stereo, pool, bouncy castle, cupboards and various boxes of pots/children's toys etc) and maybe a bleach spray to get rid of the smell (not that I can smell anything - but thinking maybe the bees can). New shed for next year though.

Inside Shed around pool heater which can't be removed as it is wired in.

I probably see one of these every 5 or six years by the pond and only ever one, for some reason they don't seem to thrive very well. Anyway, it's a Cinnabar Moth and it's a striking Moth and when I first saw it many years ago I rushed to the books to ID. It's a pity it's not more prevalent as it adds colour to the garden and countryside.

Yes, Armandii, they are not that often seen. We have cinnabar moths come to our garden a couple of times a year on average. Saw one last week but it didn't quite touch down for me to take a photo:dunno: .
Here are 2 photos from previous years:

                Hi Fern

this time of year they collect it to cool the hive down on hot days they spread it about on the frames of wax and they fan the air which acts as air conditioning .

In the spring they collect it to water down the stored honey to feed themselves and the babies.

Well, the babies have now "flown" the nest. I watched it all happen on the weekend, great to see. What happens to them now? Where do they sleep?!
