This Red Damsel has been around my pond for weeks but when ever I was there with the camera it never appeared:gaah:....... until now.:snork: They are very skittish and at the slightest movement would fly off before a shot could be taken so it took a while to get these!!

If you look at the tail and the four red bands on it it might remind of some gadgets that have the same. I know I've seen the design somewhere on a gadget, I just can't bring it to mind.......but it does show that Nature was there first in colours and design!!:love30: You don't notice the intricate working of the wings until you can get a good image of them.......Nature is an Artist!!:snork:

I've been living here with the pond for over 10 years, seen many kinds of dragonflies and damselflies and lots of nymphs but had never seen a larva casing until today. And this one is huge - 5.5 cm long (over 2"). While I was photoing it, a damselfly landed nearby which, happily, give us a good indication of the nymph's size. Shame I didn't spot it a few hours earlier to have a chance of seeing a metamorphosis.

There seem to be more and more colour mutations appearing on birds. I took these today, the lighter colour really enhances the speckles on it's breast.

Thanks Armandii, I'm surprised they came out so well, the bird was on the move and I'd taken them through the window. :)

It's a Mistle Thrush nFrost, but their backs are usually a darker brown. :)
