They are friends Honeybunny. That is a chrysalis that has overwintered and will shortly be performing the next miracle of Nature. When the time is right, the shell case will break open and a beautiful butterfly will emerge,

Is it possible to tell which one? Is there anything I can do to help him/her?

really Jenny a butterfly, i never would have thought! :wub2: what're they thinking of associating with the likes of leather jackets & weevil grubs, hangin' out in the soil with those bad boys will only get them a bad reputation :nonofinger:

yeah Jen as nFrost says any idea what species of butterfly it could be?

I'm not knowledgeable on the types nFrost, but just place it in a safe, shaded place where it cannot be seen by feathered predators and let Mother nature do the rest. You never know, you may be lucky and witness it happening,

you could always play at being a big kid again & set up a jamjar or similar to keep it
in until it changes so you can watch it all happening....i would!

Lovely photo of burnet moth, Yvonne Donnellon :blue thumb: .

nFrost and honeybunny: I think your pupa is more likely to be a moth. There are a few of them having reddish brown coloured pupae of slightly different sizes, for example 'angel shade' and 'cinnabar', so don't know which one.

Thank you, To be honest I had no idea what it was. The coast line by my home is alive with plant, insects and birds I don't know the name of but I don't if I'm ignorant or the area is rich with wildlife?

ah Loli such wonderful pics  reminds me of the little blackbird chick we hand reared many years ago, she was just a little naked baby when the cat proudly plonked her at our feet :cat-kittyandsmiley: but my goodness did she grow! it seemed she grew by the hour & all too soon it was time to say good bye, we let her go free in the garden once she was willing & able, it was great standing there watching her flying away free like she should be but...well...i was heart broken tbh & had a damn good cry after  such a wonderful experience though & one i'd love to repeat...minus the cat part
