About 45 years ago a baby blackbird fell down our chimney. Mrs Shiney took it to work with her - in a shoe box - and fed and watered it every hour. Each day when she got home from work she put it, still in the open box, on the patio. On the fifth day the mother came down and they went off together.

To be honest, although it was very cute I had got fed up with its cheaping by day five! :)

A walk around Gore Heath a mile from home.
Disused clay pit, ideal for dragonflies and Hobby, saw both but the Hobby was toooooo quick for a pic.

I think this is an Emerald Dragonfly but I'm not sure which one.

Not many birds around but on focussing on a distant Yellow Hammer I noticed a Dartford Warbler under it. ( the fourth DW of the morning).

Nice to see a small magpie. Remember them as a child - in my grandparents' outside Privvy.
They had so many things that lived and hibernated in there. I always asked to "go" when visiting - whether I wanted to or not,
if you understand what I mean,

The old Shiney family mansion used to have an outside privvy but the only wildlife were rats! It was a three bedroomed terrace house in the East End that housed my grandparents, my father and his nine brothers and sisters and his oldest sister's husband and three children :hate-shocked:.

I don't think they would have been charged the 'bedroom tax'! :snork:

                              They're great pictures :dbgrtmb:

These are not so great. This scruffy robin is quite a character. Yesterday he was dive bombing a crow and today he chased off a pigeon. He doesn't seem to bother with any of the smaller birds. I've only seen him around for a few weeks so, maybe, he's a young one.

I hadn't got around to scrubbing the squirrel guard

I didn't quite catch a proper look at this insect and wondered what he is. Sorry it's just a side view but he disappeared quickly.
