Well, I think the first bee in Mr Shiney's parade is Bombus lapidarius,

What catches my eye, Sheal, is how the wings are so cleverly made of the transparent panels and delicate frame work........a genius design. I'm no believer but seeing things like that make me question my own disbelief.:dunno::snork:

Lots of Butterflies on a walk (U3A Nature Group) on the chalk escarpment above Swanage,
Meadow Browns, Gate Keepers, Skippers, Ringlets and lots of Marbled Whites and Dark Green Fritillries but no Blues ()
Very few pics as they were not still long enough.

Sorry, IG, but it's not a Dragonfly,,,,,,it's a Damsel. Dragonflies hold their wings horizontal to their bodies at rest, like so......

While Damsels hold their wings at rest in the perpendicular positions, like so..........

So the one Shiney has posted is, like the one above, a Banded Demoiselle:snork:

                  Thanks ARMANDII :blue thumb:

As the quality of the photo is reduced for putting on here the hairs on its legs aren't visible. Whereas, on my screen, the legs have evenly spaced hairs sticking out horizontally all the way down the legs.

OK, I'll post it there so that you could put it on your wall, Jenny.

Just had an hour-long power cut, then seems to have some problems with GC server again, now fingers crossed, let me see if I can finish this posting.

                    Mummy, I'm here, feed me!!!

This morning when we had our first stroll around the garden, we found this fish lying on the lawn...
                    image.jpg

                    image.jpg
We were quite puzzled at first, then we saw one of the guard canes around the pond was knocked off. All our fish are in hiding, so we cannot verify it, but it is very likely it is our dear old tench (it must have been 15+ year old, and wouldn't surprise me if it was over 20). I'm feeling quite sad about the loss :cry3:but Mr H gave it a good burial near to a rose bush so we hope it'll add nutrients which will reward us in years to come. We suspect a heron was the culprit (we've seen them before hence the guard canes and there aren't many ospreys in residential South Glos) but it's a bit puzzling why it didn't pick it up again if it dropped it?

I'm sorry to read of your loss HsuH. A dear old friend who had been with you a long time. We had one in our pond - it flashed a gorgeous olive green if the light caught it right.
herons are a pond keeper's nightmare.
