    Well,
have you ever seen a caterpillar with fancy spotted boots likes these?? I couldn't stop smiling - I think he's great. A lot around the potted palms at Hotel Chocolat. Anyone a caterpillar ID expert?
thanks, Hotel Chocolat St Lucia January 2013 075.JPG

Jenny, did you have any Frangipanis around? It's a Frangipani Hawk Moth caterpillar.

Thanks for that prompt ID Strongy. I am not familiar with the Frangipani tree so wouldn't have recognised it but, seeing as the Rabot Estate has been up and running since 1745 and the boss's old Colonial Bungalow is nearby, I expect there would be these trees in the garden to keep the lady of the house happy.

For quite a long time we've had Gold finches visiting our niger seed feeder, but Siskins (if thats what they are) seem to have taken over during the past couple of months.
The House sparrow population in the garden are starting to get noisy again - must sense Spring on the way!

Photos through the kitchen window during Garden Watch on Saturday.

2 lovely shots Dave, I'd say they are siskins - lucky to know of an easy, ready food source that they can rely on,

Great Dave, male, top right, female left and juvenile bottom right.
They often stay a long time feeding on the nyjer feeders and seem to be tamer than the other birds.
Our family of Siskins left around November and were replaced by the Redpolls.
I thought they would be here for the winter particularly during the cold snap but they haven't come back. We get the Redpolls every day which I never expected to see at all!

Onwards to KeyWest, which is surprisingly commercialised given that its so far away from anywhere. Atleast these natives where reasonably friendly..
