The first time I saw it @"M" I thought it was a Chaffinch but I realised the markings and head colouring were quite a bit different. Again the shot was taken through glass which is why it isn't that clear. Apparently they tend to mix with the Tit family, a lot of which visit here but I hadn't seen it until the Long tailed Tits started coming.

Lucky you @Sheal, the pics I took last January were behind glass but they were in a nature reserve not in a garden.:dbgrtmb:
Have you had just the one? it is a male and will probably be gone by the end of the month and fly back to Germany or somewhere on the continent. In summer their head goes completely black, something we don't see here. I hope he will be a frequent visitor for a week or two.
They mainly mix with Chaffinch and their french name is the Northern Chaffinch, Pinson du Nord.

I wouldn't have thought the glass was very clean at the nature reserve, you were lucky to get the pics.

I've only seen the one, assuming it's the same one @strongylodon. It's a shame it'll disappear for the summer but hopefully it will make it's way back for next winter. I spotted it about two weeks ago for the first time but it didn't register until I had time to study it more this last week. It only seems to visit at a certain time of day and this shot was taken just after 3pm. As you say, accompanied by a dozen or so Chaffinches but it usually appears with the Long Tailed Tits first before the Chaffinches appear.

Cor, what a handsome pheasant! I've seen plenty in the past couple of years, but, always in flight  Mind you, I've always had Ozzy around me :doggieshmooze: :heehee:

Never heard of pheasant hawking before - there's an education! :dbgrtmb:

As for your bird, my mother would say: "He's cock of the midden!" :heehee:
