WHAT'S BUZZING OR FLYING NEAR YOU 2018

Where's all the Swallows this year, not seen one

 

We don`t see swallows until later in the summer.

 

Arriving in small numbers but they are late this year as are House Martins. Saw the first one three weeks ago but since then, only in twos and threes.

Helecopter transfering bags of rock to higher fells mainly to renew paths worn away by walkers.




Spring is a little late here but just waiting to burst.

Photos taken through kitchen window so not the best quality, and excuse the ridiculously long clump of grass, must have missed that bit, but the blackbirds obviously feel safer being a bit hidden

 

Thank you Strongylodon, we normally see one or two around the 4th April but so far not one

So far bee and bird number are way down to past years

 

Our garden has been so full of birds lately, it's beautiful to see. Here we have a magpie, and can you spot the collared dove on top the swing set too? We have two magpies visiting the garden, mainly collecting twigs for a nest they must be building elsewhere. The smaller birds aren't too bothered by them, but Mr Blackbird is very protective of his two fledgling babies, and flies at the magpies if they come too close. We also have sparrows nesting in our eaves. It is such a joy to watch them all.

Oh @wiseowl how adorable are they? What great photos. And @martin-f , we've had a few visits from a sparrow hawk in our garden, first time was around November last year. Beautiful to see, although I'm not too keen for regular visits and I'm sure our songbirds aren't either! Great pics though.

 

Hi Sienna first time ive seen him in the garden for a while, i recently removed two high tree stumps that was occasionally used by him as a hunting post, the tree stumps was also used as a look out post for other birds,

Now the trees are gone the birds are now using my home made arbor as there look out and the SH has followed suit,

Yes hope the visits are few and far between but still nice to see in the garden.

 

How absolutely gorgeous are they Woo . We have wildies in the fields around us and occasionally in the garden. Also have Hares too
