The 4 goslings on our local pond now appear to be part of a single parent family.

Around the middle of last week one of their parents disappeared and hasn't been seen since. I had a walk around their pond and found fresh Fox poo in several places, but no sign of any feathers.

It's almost impossible to tell the difference between male and female Canada Geese unless they're side by side, but looking back at earlier pics I reckon it's the male that's gone missing.

I really do miss seeing the birds in my garden. Then perhaps in a way I am thankful that only a few visit. YES! cats are the problem. At one time the garden was visited by so many species. Now the odd firecrest & goldgrest fly in. Robins can be regular vistors often finding a safe place to nest. Usually there are a pair of blackcaps spending a while. Tits are plentiful except the bearded tit. There are a couple of pairs of blackbirds nest somewhere within. I often hear the beautiful song of the chaffinch, they used come down to drink, but no more. Wrens are still here. The song of the greenfinch can often be heard...zeeep! The sparrows vanished a few years back and the starlings. We used to have them nesting/roosting under the eaves. Green ring necked parrotkeets are plentiful, so are magpies and when young tits are leaving the nest, crows. It's ages since I have seen a thrush locally. Goldfinches are getting plentiful, also linnets. YES of course, greedy guts....wood pidgeon is growing in size and population. Been quite a while since I had pidgeon pie....yummy.

We've got three ducks which were the left overs from the shooting party, i think they would have been shot as well but the pain in the butt neighbour conplained about the shot hitting the house, so we've saved their lifes :) :snorky:

Now that's an adorable site to see...when young ones come on our garden they mainly aim for the decking to practice their flying skills up and down on the decking rail :snorky:
