WHAT'S BUZZING OR FLYING NEAR YOU 2019

Soon-to-be-flying, at any rate!

The first damsel fly I’ve seen this year, waiting for her wings to harden off, having emerged from the water in her final larval stage (you can see the case above her)....

First Humming Bird of the season.



Pine Siskin, range southern Canada to the southern U.S.



Carolina Wren, range eastern U.S.



White-Throated Sparrow, White-Striped Form, range Canada to the northeastern U.S.

 

I wish we had Hummingbirds here Hydrogardener, they are fascinating to watch.

 

The bird was actually iridescent green and ruby red but in the photo, the color is washed out. I suspect it is how the sunlight is reflected off the feathers. They appear to be almost metallic when you see them up close.

Just seen the first swallows of the year, swooping low in front of an incoming thunder storm. Then ran to close the cloches, before the storm winds ripped them to pieces!!

 

House finch, native to the western U.S. introduced to the eastern U.S. about 1940.



The male goldfinches are in their breeding colors. It is amazing how drastically their plumage changes in just a few weeks.

No pics as I can't upload until I get back but so far as well as a Koala in the wild I saw my first Kookabura today as well as a Wedge Tailed Eagle. Sydney has 100s of Cockatoos and Ibis everywhere.
@shiney the fruit bats has been made to leave the gardens due to tree defoliation.
Off to Uluru and Alice Springs and the outback tomorow.

Noisy Miner, very noisy and like the others here, will steal your food.

Little Black Cormorants, they realy are quite small.

 

Just to clarify, that is a Miner and not a Myna which I have also seen.

 

Limited climbing has been allowed but now there will be, as you say, a complete ban. We will be on a three day tour including Kings Canyon and finishing in Alice springs.
I keep having to remember we are10 hours ahead here.
