Thanks @Kandy lovely shots of the robin. The zoom on my camera is nowhere near good enough for those sort of shots

We have three families of spotted woodpeckers in the poplars at the bottom of our garden and I can't work out whether we have five or six robins in the garden. They usually have quite distinctive differences but they seem to be imitating each other - or my eyesight is getting worse. I always recognise the one that sits on my shoulder as he has a faint white stripe on the edge of one wing. :blue thumb:

Time to get yourself a decent camera then @shiney

At the moment we have just one pair of robins which now seem to be a strong bonded pair so they will be nesting soon.I am not sure if robins do the migration run coming to this country to escape the harsh European winters as I know a lot of blackbirds and starlings come over to spend the winter in our gardens before returning home when the weather improves for them:biggrin:

I was hanging bird nut feeders over at our allotment over the last few years until the Great Spotted Woodpecker decided my nuts weren’t quiet good enough so went and drilled holes in all my fruit trees.I was not a happy bunny I can tell you:sad:

Good though that you have so many living around your garden though:dbgrtmb:

Our garden is the right habitat for them. It's big, has loads of big trees and lots of big shrubs and ivy. We also put out lots of feed - 20kg every five weeks.

The woodies like the poplars because they're so tall and they give them plenty of pecking space. Blackbirds prefer some of our specimen conifers and some of the ivy. Thrushes and robins stick mainly to ivy for their homes. Tits prefer the bird boxes. I've no idea where the finches nest.

Went out Wednesday morning with Mr Kandy to see the Great Grey Shrike,Lapland Bunting (Life Tick) Corn Bunting and Bramblings visiting the county at this moment in time so three more birds to this years tick list and one Life tick so we are happy bunnies:biggrin:

Couldn’t get any photos of the Great Grey Shrike as he was too far away, the Lapland Bunting was flying to fast amongst the sky larks, the corn buntings were keeping their heads down so missed them and the local dog walkers kept frightening off the Bramblings so sadly no photos of any of them:sad:

Thanks Kandy, those little Downys are my favourites. One pair in particular have known me so long they will perch on my shoulder while I'm getting their suet block out for them. lol

This afternoon we popped over to Pitsford Water determined to try and tick off the Ringed Necked Duck that has been around for a few weeks now. Finally I Spotted it with my Binos and then Mr Kandy Spotted it with his high powered telescope:biggrin: The Ring Necked Duck (Drake/Male -American visitor) is on the left,Little Grebe (Dabchick) in the middle of the photo and Tufted Duck drake on the right.

No idea what this Canada was doing can only assume he/she was keeping warm on this freezing cold day:biggrin:

Canaries, they have taken the place of Sparrows! there are no Sparrows, Starlings or any of the Crow family on Madeira.

@Sheal We have just had the Siskins back, only 3 so far, have you had any?

Yesterday, after finding the male Black Redstart at Poole Quay I found out that 5 Waxwings were in a garden a few hundred yards from home and I managed to get a few pics. I have never seen them resonably close before
