      The robin than used to sit on my shoulder when I was digging is, sadly, no longer with us. He had started doing that when still a youngster and continued to do so for about five or six years.

      We had five successful nests in the garden this year (could be more but not noticed them) each with four young. Is that a standard number for them? One nest was in a flowerpot, on its side, in a stack of boxes in our car port. We used to talk to the babies every day :)

      One of the new robins in the garden is getting extremely friendly and reminds me of the one that sat on my shoulder. He follows me around, only in the back garden, and I can now stand next to him and talk to him. I was less than 2ft from him in these first two photos. A bit further in the third.

          Eastern Kingbird. Looks like it is dressed for a formal occasion. :smile:

            At last I've managed to catch the Goldfinches - but through glass.

                @hydrogardener That's a smart bird.:smile:

                Four finches on the feeders, @Sheal I guess a Bullfinch would be even better.

                  The image in post #337 above was taken with the lens I was out with photographing butterlies.

                  Today I went back with my long birding telephoto to that Red Kite nest to get a better shot. It's relatively low down and beside a public footpath (only 6 mins walk from home), but I don't linger to avoid disturbing the adult watching over it's fledging from a nearby branch.

                  Fledgling Red Kite on edge of nest:

                      You are lucky to have them so close, there is no known nests of any red Kites here in Dorset and I have never seen one perched (yet).
