      Thanks @Sheal We have quite a few of them that circle very high overhead but never see them even at low levels.

        Kestrel. Yesterday I went out without a camera and got really close to one on a fence post, plus saw a flock of fieldfares.

                Did that Red Admiral really have yellow markings?

                Red Admirals are the only butterflies I've seen for some time now (last one on 1st Nov), but haven't managed to get close to any.

                  I rescued a Red Admiral from the side of the bed in my guest room today. I don't know how long it had been there, but I opened the window and let it flutter out and down on to the drive in the sun. No sooner had it settled a Robin swooped down and took it! Sometimes nature is so cruel. :doh:

                    Not buzzing or flying :scratch:. I picked him up and held him in my warm hand for a few minutes and he then flew off. I don't know whether I should have left him to make his own way and whether picking him up might have had an adverse psychological effect on him.
