After a few weeks of virtually no birds feeding they have returned. They have got through 3kg in two days.

@Logan We do have wood pigeons but they can't access the feeders. They, and other larger birds are usually fed by the small birds. They drop a lot of seed under the feeders and seem quite content to clear up for us.

The only larger birds that seem to acknowledge the smaller birds are the pheasants. Whilst they are waiting for the small birds to drop seed they stand there looking up at them. The wood pigeons wander around with their heads down looking for more seed. The pheasants have the brighter idea as they can see when the seeds are falling and get to them first. :blue thumb:

Red Necked Grebe, in winter plumage it looks quite dull but it is a very uncommon visitor here from Europe. Of the 5 Grebes seen here in the UK this the only non breeding one.

Crossbills are not particularly common around here so it was nice to see a small flock of 10 at Arne RSPB today on my rounds. So dull and cloudy that taking pics was difficult to say the least.

@Victoria, it was a bit blowy out there.

I wondered why the sparrows suddenly disappeared and then I saw what was on the back gate.
The orange barring on the chest shows it is a male.

Beautiful bird Strongy. :) Yes, the birds not only disappear into the shrubbery and trees, total silence follows as well. I've had a couple of Kestrels watching the garden from fence posts over the last two weeks, I've not seen them here before.

Today the the Long Tailed Tits returned, I only see them during the winter months. A couple of not so good shots below....

All our small birds have disappeared again and not seen them for nearly a week.

Although we now have the first of our pheasants back in the garden after months of not seeing them.

He didn't smile for the camera :)
