@Giri, Spotted Flycatcher on possibly 2nd brood by now. They stay longer in Spain than here.
Ours will leave for central Africa by mid August to mid September, returning in early May.

Martin Down near Salisbury, all three have declined in numbers by at least 40% over the last 50 years.

Truly terrible photos I know, but can anyone identify this fascinating insect, please? It's so thin and insubstantial that I struggled to photograph it! It's always flying around my achillea, nothing else in the garden. Its 'tail' has a white tip. :dunno:

Thanks for the suggestion, @Giri. :) I did wonder if it was one of those but there are many photos of them online and this didn't seem to be included. The part at the back could well be an ovipositor but it's certainly much finer than any I've seen before! :dunno:

After several days of rain the honey bees are very busy, so much work, so little time.

We have Collard Doves but they are more white with a dark ring. Noisy critters.

Rather unpleasant. I went out to fill up the bird feeders and one of them had a blue tit with its head stuck in the feeding hole. He was dead and we couldn't ease it out. So I said that I would unscrew that perch but then found his head stuck in the end where the screw is. I'll have to try and figure something out as I'm too much of a wimp to pull it apart.

I left the bird feeder on the ground and it looks as though the predators cleared the dead blue tit. Can't see properly as it's a bit too far to see in the heavy rain. :noidea:

It appears that this female house finch has found a berry bush nearby.
