Young Pied Wagtail, appeared in the garden yesterday on it's own. Today the parent was close by.

The House Martins have started to gather around my garden for the last couple of days, getting ready to fly off to other climes. I compared their arrival to dates from last year and they are two days earlier, so not much difference.

Had a Hummingbird Hawk-moth visit yesterday, it stayed in my new border for 15 minutes and drank from two of my salvias! Looked for it today at the same time but didn't see it, tho I saw two moths a few minutes later which I think were a different species also drink from my salvias, this time from three of them. The HHM was drinking as they are always photographed, with proboscis extended, but these seemed to get right into the flower to feed, or at least a lot closer to it. :dunno:

I'm assuming this is a young Magpie. He has been sitting on the same branch in the early morning for most of the week.

Wryneck at Portland Bill, passing through on it's way to Africa. Related to the Woodpeckers but a ground feeding bird. It's cryptic plumage makes very difficult to see when on the ground. Lost as a breeding species here due to habitat loss.
