Here's a video about a hummingbird hawk moth in the UK. A few days ago there was one on my verbena bonerences.

There must be something good to eat or minerals that they need because these mallard ducklings spent a great deal of time getting muddy.

Had the aerial 'battle of St Barth' yesterday in the chicken run. 4 hens + 3 crows v. 3 buzzards. Sadly, Oven-ready, one of the hens, lost her head. The others are deeply traumatised and not straying far from the hut today.

Sorry to read this ... but you shouldn't have called her Oven-ready! Hope the others calm down soon and the buzzards keep away.

It was the only thing to call a chicken who, after being rescued from a life of depravity as a cockerel's favourite, went into 'self-harm' mode and plucked herself constantly :noidea: She walked in a very strange fashion, too  A blessed release, really :) The others are pulling themselves together :)

I don't have any photos to post but just lately it seems we have transferred to the coast - the seagulls kick up such a racket it's hard to believe!

We normally get them from the East here - especially when an easterly wind blows. So I was very surprised to see some flying around here & later perching on some roofs that looked bigger & a different colour to the ones we are used to.

Someone posted some photos a couple of pages back saying something about gulls from the Med & as we had some very hot air from Spain last week it makes me wonder if I may have seen the same kind here???

A very early returning Wheatear. It seems the autumn migration has started in July!
