Ringed Plovers, they really are tiny, compared to Gulls and Geese.

:roflol:I just looked at the picture I posted yesterday. That is NOT the bird I saw on the feeder originally. It must have gotten a call from Mum and taken off and that little sparrow swooped in to pose instead  I must have looked like a bird brain :roflol:

Another 'exotic' bird expanding it's range from Southern Europe, the Glossy Ibis, numbers fluctuate from year to year and will hopefully be the next wader to breed here.
This one was just a few miles from home and distant keeping company with cattle which disturb insects on which it feeds.

The Siskins have returned after 6 months away in the forest, hopefully they will stay until August.

That's a fine mesh on your feeder @strongylodon, it's probably much easier to keep clean than the plastic ones. Something I will consider when I need to replace mine.

@Sheal I bought this one mainly so that several birds can feed at the same time which does mean it gets emptied quickly! It has a quick release wire at the bottom for easy cleaning too.
Since I put this up the nyjer seed feeder has been totally ignored.

Thanks Strongy. Are they sunflower hearts inside? I've found all birds will eat those, possibly because they're oily. I gave up with nyjer the first year I moved here as it wasn't touched at all.

@Sheal Yes, sunflower hearts and all birds here eat them.
They were back again this morning with 6 Goldfinches. I am hoping for more than just this pair.

I have never seen sunflower seeds without their shells for sale as bird seed. I have been adding extra unshelled sunflower seeds to my bought and premixed bags for the feeders. I guess I'm hoping that whatever seeds and shells the birds knock over the side, will either be eaten by mice or just break down into the garden soil. Yours looks much cleaner.

I do need to check the feeder to see if I need to add more. There are still birds visiting it. It is only about 20 feet back from the deck but the snow is quite deep. I discovered this an hour ago when I went to read the meter for the gas fellow. The snow is up around my hips in places. Oh well, if I can get to the meter... ;)

Your first image is lovely @strongylodon. The Siskins have been intermittent visiting this winter and are here at the moment. I've had ten Long Tailed Tits vying for position on the fat ball holder, it was strange seeing their tails pointing every which way. :)

Don't you have any ground feeding birds @CanadianLori?
