Great pictures @strongylodon . We had our first ever deer walk down the drive yesterday (this is NOT deer country) and despite it's size (young red I think) I still could not catch a picture!!

As well as young Siskins and Blue Tits, today we saw that the recent visiting Greenfinch pair brought young to the garden. Young Goldfinches and Sparrows are appearing too.
Awkward pic through dg glass and looking up into white cloud.

The eggs have hatched and the parents are busy feeding the little ones.

@Sheps we have lots of those beetles on our yellow flowers. The males have brought along their females too.

Our garden is being used constantly by a pair of Great Spotted Woodpeckers, I think their nest is in an oak tree in the field next door. Instead of using the bird feeders which they feed from in the winter, they’re getting grubs or something from the grass. They’re constantly back and forward so obviously feeding young. Looking forward to seeing their young as last year they brought them to our garden to show them the buffet!!

I do wonder what they are finding in the grass, never seen one on the grass here. Green woodpecker, yes as they love ants.

@Sheps do you think the boys have those legs to attract the girls? Can't think what else they can be for. They are both quite active on the flowers.

I think @Alan Clark has answered the question @cactus_girl

It would appear that the female beetles like a good squeeze.

@Sheps and @Alan Clark I shall have to see if there is any hanky-panky going on at the bottom of the garden then!

No photos of our red kite as he's too fast for my camera and always comes straight down over our roof, but he was good entertainment for our lunch guests yesterday.

He's always in the top of a tree at the bottom of the garden and comes down when I whistle for him.

We were sitting on the patio and throwing our chicken drumstick bones out onto the lawn. He doesn't come until I whistle and then he circles about three times and swoops in from behind us skimming the rooftop and glides, totally silently, to scoop them up. About a five foot wingspan just over our heads is quite impressive. :blue thumb:

We've become quite attached to him and this is his third year with us. He brought his two youngsters around last year but they didn't come for any bones (we don't put food out for him but the little scraps left on the bones , especially legs of lamb, are what he loves). We never have to bin the bones.

He roosts at night in the small woods a few hundred yards away and I guess his wife and nest are there.
