Judging by this 'creche' on a neighbours roof the Starlings in our village are breeding well this year.

That's good, and makes a change... Starlings here are becoming very rare.

I think the magpies nesting in my garden may have young @Escarpment , if their mobbing of a grey squirrel was anything to go by, a day or two ago. I'm surprised they have anything viable in a nest if their nest building incompetence is anything to go by! Lovely when the young robins come in, although I've only seen one so far. The blackbirds rarely come in at this time of year - too many other suitable sites for them to breed etc. We have tons of habitat around here for all sorts of birds, but I know they're out there, which is what matters.

I rescued an angle shade moth from the kitchen the other day. Should have taken a photo, but had other things on my mind. He/she fluttered off quickly though, which was good.

We never see those round here @Sheal, although we get plenty of jackdaws, carrion crows and rooks, but I never see hooded crows. The ravens on hills are always a pleasure to see.

@fairygirl the magpies don't get a lot of peace, the blackbirds shout at them and mob them. I'm pretty sure there are young dunnocks around as well as I usually just see the pair and now often see three at a time. No robins yet though I have seen the adults carrying food, they usually nest in next-doors fir tree.

I've not been around as much recently, so it's been a bit hit and miss with what I see, but the magpies don't usually nest in my garden. It's because one of the two large pines was removed further along from me, and that was the usual site for them and various crows. The irony is that there are loads of mature pines just across the road that they could have used instead, but they've picked the conifer in my plot. They look like juveniles from last year though. Daughter has just moved out, so she'll get peace now when she has to get up for work at 5 am, as they've been hideously noisy! Lots of blackbirds in the trees and hedging next to her new flat though.

I was walking across the fields where I walk with my dog just now.
So peaceful and clear blue skies with just a few fluffy clouds when I spotted a Buzzard. Quite low and circling in a thermal.
Moments later it was joined by another Buzzard a bit lower down and I watched them both soaring in the thermal until they were such tiny dots my eyes went squiffy :)
A lovely start to the day and a beautiful sight to behold.

Mr Robin spotted feeding one of his chicks in the garden this morning. We were a little surprised as he normally tempts it away before feeding. But it did its little wing flapping and was rewareded. He took the other 2 mealworms off to what I guess are other chicks. The chick stayed in the garden preening as Mr Robin flew back and forwards feeding those outside. It didn't attempt to ask for more, so I guess was well fed. It did fly a few feet and seemed confident, so I guess it has has been out of the nest for some time now. Total guess, but I'm expecting to see 3-4 of them in the next week or so.

There only seems to be one pair of Hooded Crows here @fairygirl and a couple of pairs of Carrion Crows. No Jackdaws, Rooks or Ravens. There is an assortment of birds of prey though. Red Kites, Buzzards, Sparrowhawks and Kestrels as well as Barn and Tawny Owls.
