What's buzzing or flying near you 2024 ?

I haven't had time to take pictures this month. I was even hardly at home.
This morning, I changed to the tele lens again. I found bees in the morning hours, and birds in the afternoon for their bathing time.





My investment in April was worth every penny.




First was one, then two ...



Then three ...



Then four ...



Maybe it's one of my youngsters. They remember the noises and say, we were born here, here we stay.

 

Found this little chap on top of the wheelie bin, but as soon as I got near he was springing around everywhere.

Only about 0.5 ins long and quite cute I think.

 

Male greater spotted woodpecker on the peanut feeder this morning with juvenile on the other side. Male constantly pecking at the peanuts and then moved around to feed the youngster. After some time the juvenile took fright, don't know why, and flew off. Male watching and wondering what was going on. Later on Female GSW came to the same feeder on her own.

For the last few days I've been noticing the blackbirds carrying pale coloured butterflies/moths. They come down to the grass to try and cram in some mealworms as well. It's taken me a few goes to get a clear enough photo to work out what they are catching - Box Tree moths! Nice to see that someone is getting a benefit.

 

I usually have a chiffchaff or two busying around in my silver birches, but today I spotted one sunbathing on the fence! Giving the armpits a good airing out it seems.

 

I've seen more birds than ever doing this over the season, wonder if it is the weather causing worse lice problems for them? I've not however seen any increase in birds picking up ants this year, even with their increase in numbers.

I've got a lot of Siskins here too @strongylodon, I think they've had a good breeding season this year.

 

I had a young Blackbird in my hand today.... Had been in the Blueberries that I was daft enough to net! It lost a lot of feathers and found out it pointless to bite/peck humans. I lost a little bit of netting, then a lot more berries!
